League of Legends (LoL) Question: Iceborn Gauntlet on Ryze?

Let's compare:

The stats from Iceborn Gauntlet are:
* 500 mana
* 40 AP
* 60 Armor
* 10% CDR
* A slow upon auto attack

The stats from Frozen Heart are:
* 400 mana
* 0 AP
* 95 armor
* 20% CDR
* A slow of attack speed

So let's subtract the stats of Iceborn Gauntlet with the ones of Frozen Heart:
* 100 mana
* 40 AP
* -35 Armor
* -10% CDR
* A slow upon auto attack
* -A slow of attack speed

It is quite obvious that the slow of attack speed is much more useful for Ryze than the slow upon auto attack, due to the fact that Ryze doesn't auto attack a lot.

Though you will have minimal use of the unique passive of Iceborn Gauntlet, the AP and mana will increase your damage output. This though, I am afraid, could be more :P

The damage increase you will get from this is:
Q: 22,5 damage
W: 28,5 damage
E: 15 damage each bounce

While the damage you get per second because you do not have the 35 more armor:
81,2 (Ryze base armor at lvl 18) + 35 = 116,2 armor
81,2 armor blocks 45% of the enemy physical damage
116,2 armor blocks 54% of the enemy physical damage.

This 9% would block on an auto attack of 400 damage -> 36 damage


The damage output you get from Iceborn Gauntlet is much less than the damage you prevent with Frozen Heart, especially since you will barely use the active of Iceborn Gauntlet.
Also: The Frozen Heart even has 10% more CDR than Iceborn Gauntlet, which also will increase his damage output.

I think it is pretty clear now that Frozen Heart is the pick for Ryze :D

It does not give you much ap, which really doesn't affect ryze anyways. Then, it gives you a slow. However, hu don't really need this slow as you have a built in slow on ur q, which has a tiny cooldown.

This also forces u to autoattack in between skills, which in my opinion is extremely awkward and slow.

Randuins omen, frozen heart are better armor items.

Frozen heart almost always

No reason to get iceborn imo
