Interesting mid choices?
Mid seems to be the most open and versatile lane these days. It seems like you can pretty much anything provided you know how to lane against the champion you are fighting and your team can work around it.
I had some ideas of things I wanted to try for mid lane that are unconventional.
Here's the list:
Bruiser
Ezreal (AP or AD)
Maokai
Nami
Nocturne
Renekton
Shaco
AD
Thresh
Urgot
Warwick
What do you guys think of any of those champions as a mid?

Never tried Maokai
Tried Nami, good heal and E passive but low AP dmg when it comes to fights.
Nocturne stays in jungle
Renekton , euh....?
Shaco is possible because hes similar to katarina
Dont have Thresh, Urgot and Warwick
AD
- dont think its gonna work
Maokai
- works (zz1tai played it in tournies)
Nami
- dunno
Nocturne
- no gapclose and has to get melee (besides ult) so choose wisely
Renekton
- dunno
Shaco
- fun
AD Thresh
- it'd work but after lane idk
Urgot
- works i tihnk
Warwick
- works but wtf is ww gonna do the whole game
ehh he might work i just have something against ww because i think he sucks
@thresh im not so sure i dont really play him but i think he's just better off as a sup cuz his utiltiy is good enough without damage
@ww: ehhh i dont like ww he has no peel or engage besides his ult. kinda useless as a bruiser
As for
And Warwick; Main reason to even pick him is either for siege comp (his W). or they are doing the "protect X champion" comp and his ult is pretty awesome for singling those out.
Mao and Nami's kit relies on utility and not dmg, but some mids like that are powerful, such as TF and kinda Ori.
I've see Renek mid work well.
Ez is pretty strong.
Urgot is a lane bully anywhere he goes.
My fave unorthodox mid champions are Wukong, Vi, J4, and AP Alistar :).

Without the enter in between :P

Shaco mid can be surprisingly good early on - use your boxes to get doubles, and you get a big level advantage. If you can take advantage of that...you can win early laning. I lost laning hard as Cass against a shaco mid, but his farm was AWFUL - I don't know if it was bc this Shaco sucked, but I outfarmed him after dying 525234 times, and we ended up winning.
AP Ez early farming suckkssss, but his ult and E ap damage is hilarious.
Renekton: Another crazy sustained champ, has mobility for mid, and can farm like a beast from ~lvl 5. Might outperform some typical mid choices. I think it worths a try.
Nocturne: Farms fast, however as hes melee its a little risky. Also his passive makes him naturally "pushy"(can be good or bad depending). Probably best to build ad as it gives him some decent poke and sustained damaged of off his q.
Thresh: Strong consistant harass, easy last-hitting with excellent cc and utility late game. But hes got long cooldowns and only one ranged attack (his grab). Hes a good couterpick to champions with weak early harass as the passive on his q really hurts in the early levels. Could be good vs some ad casters due to his passive, but havent tried that yet.
Oh and a couple other unconventional picks for mid are Janna (ungankable XD) and Taric (deathfire + burst = win).
Both are pretty situational, but fun to play :)
Ezreal:
Works, even wrote a guide about it :P
Maokai:
Very hard burst early and mid game.
Very nice mid, though a lower damage in the late game.
Nami:
Didnt try
Nocturne:
Same
Renekton:
Heard great things about it, didnt try it.
Shaco:
AP Shaco feels a bit bush dependant, so not really a mid champ.
AD Shaco could be played mid, but I think he can be countered easily
Thresh:
Didnt try it
Urgot:
Sucks mid, at least when I played him :P
Warwick:
Great lane sustain and damage output.
Great ganking potential and stuff.
Still, he feels better top than mid.
