Views: 1388 Do We Have Enough Champions To Play ?
|

Hey guys how's it going? Girlfriend giving you problems? Don's worry it will clear up. ;)
So I was thinking earlier today about the champion count. And as it turns out there are exactly 81 champions in the game, with goblin teeches' apprentice Ziggs now approaching, the count will raise to 82.
Personally I thought they would take a break at 80, but no, we just keep going. i don't know if Riot is a big enough company to handle making new champions, and balancing the game, while trying to breed innovation at the same time.
This got me wondering, do we have enough champions? Should Riot prioritize balancing the game for a while before bringing in any new champs? Should they be focusing on a new map or game mode? Or are they already making a new one?
Regardless of these answers, the question still stands, should the champion release dates be postponed for about two to three weeks each?
I would like to hear your thoughts, do you think that there are not enough champions and that Riot are just fulfilling the need of the many over the needs of the few? Or should they slow down a bit?
Jovoo
IMO I would like to see them insert a voice chat option. This would help greatly in solo que and would provide a nice option whey you 4 man premade in skype and the stupid random they stuck you with have no communication because you never read the chat.
Another good addon I think would be an achievement top section. (yeah yeah i know not another achievement for online games) but I think if you make some of these with say rewards like, Kill 100 bots in ai v co-op and you get say 100 ip. From there you can scale every achievement like say 100, 500, 1000, 10000 and each has a better reward with highest reward giving RP.
just some thoughts
Mini games would also be awesome. I heard Dota 2 would be making mini games like Pudge Wars available to play as a game mode.
I absolutely agree. There should be mini-games of some sort. Maybe dungeons? Maybe not, but something new than the same 'ol would be a refreshing change.
Riot should focus on more important things, like making more Teemo skins.
Sorry, someone had to say it eventually.
There are so many champs that are not justified by the amount of skins they have, yes, Riot need more skins on more champions, a wider selection, as it were. xD

1.Yes they should balance the game more, and hold back on releasing new champions.
2.That being said, champions being released to help balance the game is okay. Right now, a decent support would fall into this category.
3.Expand servers, update servers, make the entire game more enjoyable for everyone. Bug fixes, Lane pace fixes, and a lot of other things definitely need to be worked on imho.
I'll take these point by point.
1. The people in charge of balancing the game are not mutually exclusive with the people that design and balance new champions.
If Xypherous designs a new champion, he is not subtracting from balance time, he isn't on the balance team, he is a designer.
2. Champions being released will NEVER be a "help" to balance the game. Champion synergy within teams is always something strong, and the more things you release in a game, the harder to balance you make it.
However, riot has a balance stance of rock>paper>scissors>paper, then they separate their champions into roles, and have a budget of power they give to each champion.
This very much lightens that burden of balance because of the systems in place.
Also, We don't need a new support.
3. That's all well and good, but how do you propose they do this? They have said that a re-code of the client would take a long time because of their production model, and that is stopping many other minor quality of life changes.
I can't think of any major bugs.
The lane paces are fine imho.
I'd like to know what the "lot of other things" are though.
My thoughts exactly. A new champ every 2 weeks is too fast, and it's hard to build up the IP required to unlock that new champion in a 2 week period unless you play constantly.
That's the point, they need to be able to make money somehow!
I think that they should slow down the release of new characters. Having a fresh new character every 2 weeks or so is actually kinda wearing on me because of all the old champions still needing reworks and/or buffs (here's lookin at you Eve). They should slow down the release of champions to at least a month between.
My thoughts exactly. A new champ every 2 weeks is too fast, and it's hard to build up the IP required to unlock that new champion in a 2 week period unless you play constantly. I feel a new champ every month would be better. It would give the design team more time so they can polish the new champs more. It would also allow Riot to focus a bit more on reworking/balancing old champions and implementing new map types (I have my fingers crossed for a Capture the Flag style map).
Even a WTF or New Champion Upon Death mode would be fantastic.
For those of us who have gotten sick of playing 5v5s and are not impressed by 3v3s, custom games are really the only source of fun and Riot would be wise to extend this undeveloped side of their game.

1. Game's pretty much perfectly balanced as it is. Some champions are underpowered (only a very minor few - teams like M5 have proven that most champions considered "UP" are in fact viable for high level play, for example), but there are none that are overpowered. It's either learning to counter them or they've counterpicked you.
2. Champion design team isn't the same as the balance team.
3. Even if it was, game balance is practically perfect, and after Riot have removed a LOT of mechanics, they need to add more, as they have been doing a lot recently. Viktor's ult, Ziggs' bouncing bombs, etc, are all examples of new, and exciting things that aren't just "Dash to target location" or "Does X damage at Y location". The game would get bland easily if it consisted of few mechanics.
That being said, champions being released to help balance the game is okay. Right now, a decent support would fall into this category.
