"They are right. Using the same canvas size will let you keep familiar with the size knowing what to add on and what you can fit onto it without being "overly decorated".
I usually use 500x200 or 500x180"

"Well if it doesn't give the zoom in icon, then I don't think it is possible. Usually tutorials are 500x5000 pixels, at least that is what I have seen mostly when viewing tutorials in deviantart. Basically: No zoom; no tutorial
