"Belive me, mana regen is standard on almost all AP carries. But honestly I would say Swain needs it even more than most.
You need to be running his ult for the entire teamfight if possible, and also using it to farm minions waves and top up your health."

"Remember his Q scales with max health, so it will always do a good amount of damage even when you don't build AP - but it is reduced by MR.
Sorc shoes will help you with that."

"I would go Glacial Shroud into Frozen Heart (ESPECIALLY versus GP), Wit's End. Then something situational like Spirit Visage or maybe build Madred's then.
It's not magewick just because you go doran's and sorc shoes, those are mainly to help out his Q."
