"I'm also surprised I don't see Warmog's Armor as a defensive item. Since Thresh gains some defensive stats naturally, and a Runic Bulwark on a support/jungler/toplaner should help cover magic resist, Thresh should be defensively set by rounding off with hp."

"Well, ruby crystal gives you early hp, but no sustain, meaning he has to rely on his passive to regen hp. Usually not a bad idea, but it means that cho'gath shouldn't push (no sight wards) and has no way to remain in lane if he comes out worse in a gank.
