"You don't want to be comparing thornmail to sunfire cape. I consider both items core for rammus. You should, however, be questioning the rod of ages. I really can't see why I would prefer it over a sunfire.
Also, rammus wants flash. Rammus top is best with flash + teleport"

Typically, hybrid pen > magic pen. Trading 1 magic pen for 8 armor pen is definitely worth.
I don't like running flat ap glyphs. Go with scaling ap or flat mr, or split between those "
