Boots start sucks in any situation. Against both AD mids and typical ranged mids dorans shield is superior to boots.

"Read through the guide, doesn't look completely terrible.
Reconsider maw, mallet, twin shadows and gunblade (perhaps even BORK). Don't get sunfire cape late into the game because the passive will be kinda weak. Core 2 looks like an accurate late game build, except the sunfire cape.
