But in this case, when you are spending 3 mastery points and your ONLY choice is 3 AP or 3 AD, 3 AD is more useful because 3 AP isn"

You should be getting that mastery over Mental Force on every AP, but that doesn't mean you build AD Orianna or AD Karthus. The 3 AP doesn't help you at all, really, and 3 AD is noticeable to help w"
