Kayle will act as your main DPS in the early mid game, so it's often a good idea to focus on frontline items first to give Kayle more time to scale. You can use this power spike to rush towards Level 8/9 and cap out your board with Legendaries with Irelia acting as your main carry in late game.
Kayle in late game will eventually fall off unless you get very lucky and the reach 10 Storyweaver, but this chase trait requires 3 Emblems and is usually too difficult to reach. If you struggle to win fights in late game you can cut down all the way to 3 Storyweavers and simply pivot into a Legendary comp making use of units like Sett, Wukong, Rakan etc.

Should be Level 7 in Stage 3-5 or 4-1 and have 7 Storyweaver activate, this is why having the Emblem is important. Can run Tristana as item dump for Irelia. Emblem goes on either a Duelist or Diana for Sage. If you have a long win streak you can push for Level 8 in Stage 4-2 or 4-5.

You want to end the game with Level 9 or even Level 10. Irelia will act as your main carry. Kayle will start to fall off in late game, so if you struggle to win fights you can cut down all the way down to 3 Storyweaver and replace the weak low tier for Legendaries instead. (Wukong, Hwei, Lissandra, Udyr, Sett etc)

Alternative Item Builds
Irelia wants one attack speed item like Guinsoo or Red Buff. You can also give her a sustain item like HoJ or Gunblade, since she is often the last unit standing. You can skip Last Whisper since you are likely running the green Talisman from Kayle and Irelia herself has 30% armor reduction as part of her ability anways.
