Hey guys I won't write very much, but I will tell you the most important things. At first welcome to my Shen guide. Shen is my main since 1 year, I am playing very much and i like him very much. I play him mostly very greedy and aggresively. Note that this is not a FULL-Tank Shen Guide :). It's my first guide btw., so pls dont downvote it if you don't have a serious argument.

There exists an ancient order originating in the Ionian Isles dedicated to the preservation of balance. Order, chaos, light, darkness -- all things must exist in perfect harmony for such is the way of the universe. This order is known as the Kinkou and it employs a triumvirate of shadow warriors to uphold its causes in the world. Shen is one of these shadow warriors, entrusted with the sacred duty of Watching the Stars - exercising judgment untainted by prejudice.

Born to a clan whose members have decorated the ranks of the Kinkou for generations, Shen was trained his entire life to become the Eye of Twilight, and thereupon to dispassionately determine what must be done in the interests of equilibrium. As his final trial to ascend to this position, he was made to attend the Takanu, a ceremony in which his father was tortured before his eyes to test his resolve. Any reaction whatsoever would have resulted in his immediate disqualification, but he never averted his gaze and never blinked, not once. As the Eye of Twilight, Shen must make decisions that would buckle the wills of ordinary men, removing all emotion from the equation. He now works with his fellows Akali and Kennen to enforce the balance of Valoran. This hallowed pursuit has unsurprisingly led the triumvirate to the Fields of Justice.

The Eye of Twilight sees not the despair of its victims, only the elegance of equilibrium.

I chose this Spells because its very useful to have an Ignite ready to do more damage and to reduce the health regeneration of the enemy. Flash is on almost all Champs very very nice because you can escape easily or flash to engage easily.

Now the spells i didn't choose & the reasons.

Common Spells:

Exhaust


Exhaust isn't bad. You are using it usually when you want to kill the enemy or escape from the enemy. But you often win the top lane which means you dont need to slow the enemy, additionaly you have your Ability Shadow Dash . You can taunt the enemy with it and dont need any Exhaust anymore(except he is very tanky). You dont need to exhaust your enemy to kill him, because you have Shadow Dash and Flash.
ATTENTION!: Don't choosing Exhaust means not that it's bad, it's just not good enough for me, but you also can take it, if you want it.


Ghost


Ghost allows you to run after your enemy during a long time and a long distance. But it doesn't give you the ability to escape from an early gank, like Lee Sin, Shyvana or any Jungler with Red Buff. In addition you can't do the Combination: Flash + Shadow Dash. That's the biggest thing.


Heal


Heal isn't bad but if you get Ignited its useless, because then you are'nt healing yourself at all.


Teleport


( After casting 4 seconds) Teleport allows you to teleports your champion to a targeted minion, turret or ward. This is a long casting time which means it can be cancelled very easily when you are not in the base. Additionaly it has much Cooldown which is not very good. It's not bad i wouldn't say: " Don't take it. " But there are obviously some better spells :).


Uncommon Spells:

Revive


Revive is in my opinion the most useless Spell because it only revives you at your Base and gives you 220-560 health.( depending on Champion level). And it can't replace any spell.


Smite


Smite is in this Top-lane Guide a nonsense.


Surge


Surge is increasing your Attack Speed by 35 % and Ability Power 10 - 78(depending on champion level) for 12 seconds. It's a very uncommon spell because they are better spells and it may boost your Damage with abilities but it can't replace the other spells i took.


Cleanse


Cleanse removes all disables and summoner spell debuffs affecting your champion and lowers the duration of incoming disables by 65% for 3 seconds. I would only recommend you this item when the enemy Team if full of CC. Additionaly you are the Tank and don't need that kind of spell.


Clarity


Well, Clarity is restoring your mana but Shen doesn't have any mana. So it's useless.


Promote


It is quite helpful when you are playing Supporter. It helps you to push you lane. But this is (How already said) a Top-lane guide so you don't need it.


Clairvoyance


Clairvoyance reveals an area of the map for 4 seconds. Well, as a Jungler you can counter-jungle quite good with it. But in any other way it's very useless.

Pros:

+ He is very tanky
+ You can engage as far as you have a good team:)
+ You can gank useful with the taunt
+ You can rescue easily with your ulti a teammate





Cons:

- No Burst.
- Not very cheap build.
- Not easy to take kills.
- Need much life to do damage.

Sunfire Cape


Sunfire Cap is quite nice for Shen Shen because you are getting much life and armor, it's perfectly in the top lane because you have most Ad-Offtanks as enemies. It's the most important item for Shen in my opinion.


Mercury's Treads


Mercury's Treads are good for Shen because the duration of stuns,silences etc. are reduced and that means that he can escape better. Additionaly it gives you 25 Magic resist which is not bad for the late against the AP-Enemy as example.


Trinity Force


Sure many of you will think now : " Trinity Force ? Wtf? Useless. "
Sorry guys, but you are wrong. Shen is not doing very much damage, actually only with Vorpal Vorpal Blade and Ki Strike.
So you have to buy something which you can deal more damage. Trinity Force is great, the passive of Sheen size30Sheen is perfect combinable with the passive. Then Phage is giving you more life and Attack damage, with life you do more damage with your passive and with Attack Damage you can do also damage with your Auto-hits. Now the last item of Trinity Force, the Zeal. You gain extra speed which is very nice for espacing. The additionaly attack speed & crit chance is also not bad, because it can help you in any kind of fights.


Warmog's Armor


Warmog's Armor is making you very tankier, and you are almost unkillable. Choosing this Item is very important because it's increasing the time of your sustain and that can be the Victory for your team.



Trinity Force


Trinity is giving you Health , Attack Damage and the passive of , thats actually the most important thing , that is doing more damage and the extra speed can help you to do your + Combo.
Here we have the same like at Exhaust, it's very useful, but still not enough for me, but you although can take it.
