Now Riot Is theoretically building their own network. That phrase there is kind of a doosy and the reason I say that is because all their really doing is adding extra servers around the country. Sure reading the page where they say the new "backbone" in other words the main server hub is going to be in a new location according to what I read. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support/WH8doH76-na-servers-and-the-future
I hate to say it, but I don't think this will help. The reason I say this is because no matter how good your servers may be the main real big issue is the fact of someone's down steam connection. the downstream connection being the download speed that your internet runs at. I can attest to this because I recently got a much better downstream rate that my previous one that I had and my ping in game has greatly changed. I used to get around 70-110 ping in game now I'm at a constant 23 ping due to having a much better downstream rate. I live in Colorado so you could say that it attests to having better ping sure, but then why would my ping only reflect if my downstream rate went up? Well some might ask what about an upstream rate? That's a good question as an upstream rate is needed as well. It accounts for quite a bit sure such as sending that data that you input into a game to make the game react to what function you use.
Now I do think as far as upstream data is concerned this will be a good idea to add or move the server to more of a centrally located area, so maybe that's what they're going off of. It's a huge thing to really look into and I will be over the next few months, keeping up with this as they said it's all suppose to launch by march. So I guess for now it's just waiting and watching really.
Honestly this all sound super confusing to me at the moment because they say network then they say servers, backbone and I find it all very unclear in what they truly mean.
