Look, I get what you're saying about game knowledge and all that ****, but most people looking for guides are bellow the elos/starting players and most of that information isn't even relevant. In fact, they may be even be fed misinformation or stuff that isn't 100% optimal but that's not relevant to them most of the time because there's a lot of concepts to absorb. I often get asked to introduce **** in my guides by higher elo players that I'm 100% sure will fly over lower elo player's heads.

The guides are an opportunity for growth. High elo players looking for guides 99% of the time want it from a specific player/authority at X champ so they can see what they build, rune sets and masteries and see if they want to follow it or do their own twist for whatever reasons.

tl;dr: my elo brings all the boys to the guide, they like "you wanna play ranked?" damn right I wanna play ranked I could duo with you, but your elo sux.
Thank you Tsuki for the sig!

@Mejeje/False, I would personally only use the words "high elo" when referring to high diamond 1, Master and Challenger and I've never been anywhere close to that.

That's obviously a ridiculous requirement for guides though because there'd be like maybe 10 or so high Elo guides on the entire site. It's completely down to interpretation and gold is likely to be considered relatively high by newer players (i.e. the ones reading guides).

For reference, this is what I could find on the current Elo distribution:

Challenger: 0.1%
Master: <0.1%
Diamond: 2%
Platinum: 8.4%
Gold: 17.3%
Silver: 38.7%
Bronze: 33.4%

Objectively speaking, gold is pretty high (top 30%).

When I was actively reading guides, gold was pretty damn high. I think that the only reason that this is being questioned right now is because some/most regulars have skyrocketed to plat/dia last season (or s3).

I've been playing this game for three years now, and maybe I might just perhaps who knows make it to gold this season. If you're gold you've probably played at least 700 games more than a random newb, that's just a random guess.

Even that is not objective. Where people draw the boundary is pretty arbitrary. Since Silver contains the majority of people, then you could use that as the 'average' baseline, meaning Gold is only 'above average' but by no means high (or at least, it can be interpreted that way).

If we're talking in terms of guides, I would not say that Gold is high Elo at all. In checking a fair number of Gold guides, there are still many errors and misinformation to be found, especially in comparison to Plat and higher. I'm actually only tempted to place Diamond+ as high Elo, but for the purpose of writing a guide, I guess Platinum is fine.

I'm seeing a lot of guides labelled high elo by the system only to find out the player is a low plat or gold player. Like I'm not trying to be an ******* or anything but is a gold player really considered high elo? Shouldn't high elo be at least diamond?

Just my 0.02 but I think labelling high elo on gold player guides is misleading to lower elo players because gold is mid elo.

Is the question really, how do I quickly determine what might be valuable to me and others? Or concern about misrepresentation of value?

Sadly, it feels a bit more like "how can I feel more valued?"

In my opinion Platinum is the least getting called High Elo due to the amount of players being Platinum or higher rated. Furthermore, getting Gold after your first promotion series is possible but I'm unsure about getting Platinum after your first promotion series (getting level 30, playing 10 game immediately). Therefore you need to at least win a certain amount of game after your promotion before getting Platinum. Or am I wrong about this?

I, personally, feel like the insertion of the master tier kind of drops gold into mid Elo, at best. I've met many a gold player with more misconceptions about the game than myself, but I've been playing the game for nearly five years so that might be a contributing factor here.
