This is a great guide. A few Questions though:

How do you go about picking the offensive items. When would I take a Black Cleaver over a hex drinker? Is it just a matter of looking at the enemy team and deciding if I'll need armor pen or AP mitigating items first? I feel like I just answered my own question, but I'll leave it anyway.

As far as the Masteries, is it your opinion that forgoing Tough Skin and Recovery out of the Resolve tree in order to take Natural Talent and Bounty Hunter is too detrimental to early jungle clearing? I feel like Bounty Hunter's flat % dmg increase would be more useful in the mid to late game. Perhaps it's just preference when we're talking about 6 points early in a tree....anyway, any advice will be welcome. Thanks.

Cleaver is usually a solid buy if you're snowballing, hexdrinker is good if you really need the early magic resist.

J4's early clear is abysmal. It's slow and you take a lot of damage, so anything that helps prop him up during that first clear is almost essential. It would leave him even more open to early invades and leave him on lower hp for ganks, maybe making it impossible to gank without backing first.

OMG thank you for the guide I was suspicious at first but when I used your masteries and everything. I didnt have trouble in the jungle or was lacking health. He is very good at early banks and mid games. My team won without a problem. I like to build damage early then go for defensive items later in the game and it worked out my first time playing j4 in a normal match. Heres the link to my game :) http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2036848190/48729274

Yeh, I've been meaning to alter the guide quite a bit in terms of the builds I've put up. I'll get around to doing it eventually, but for now I'll give you a typical build path. Start off machete, into warrior enchant for the jungle item. Then I usually go into Black Cleaver and then full tank (Randuins, Deadmans Plate, Banshees)

Really like your guide bro, but i have 1 question. What would be like a standard path you would go in items? I'm sorry that i'm asking this, but it's not clear for me. Thanks in advance.

I really don't like IBG on Jarvan, so I'd never really consider it. Frozen Heart is very good vs teams with Auto attack reliant champions, but doesn't provide as much tankiness against AD casters. Mana is an issue with J4 during the early game, but it becomes less of a problem as the game progresses, and it's not something I'd specifically itemise for because there are much better things to opt for in terms of stats

Considering the mana problem, iceborn gantlet or frozen heart may be really good

I think I miscalculated the effect of the percentage AD compared to the flat AD. I've recalculated now and you lose about 4 or so AD with the masteries I currently have, so I'm going to change to flat AD as you suggested. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

According to your masteries, you grab 4 points in cdr and 3 points in percent ad and ignore the flat ad section entirely. Could you show me you reasoning behind this? I rarely build more than two damage items (Including jungle item) and then full tank, so I thought the flat ad would be better.

Cool. Very nice guide, btw. I had to do a *lot* of searching around to find a Jarvan guide that looked legit. While I'm sure yours isn't the only one, it's clean, has good advice, and your choices make sense.

Yeh at the time I hadn't done the maths, but since I've realised pretty much what you said. I just haven't got around to changing it. Thanks for reminding me :)
