So I've gotten kind of fed up with my current 8 years old screen. It's a pain when editing photos. Low contrast and terrible viewing angles are really hurting my experience.

So I've been eying a couple of IPS screens (staying the **** away from TN this time).

~300$ Dell Ultrasharp 2415 which is pretty amazing for the money. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm
Accurate colors (delta E 2.2), decent contrast (1000:1), good viewing angles, good response time (8MS. Average measured at 8.5MS, better than many screens claiming lower MS. Manufacturers often show their lowest number, rather than the average), 16:10 ratio (having a little extra height helps with everything outside of gaming and movies) and crazy slim borders.
Dese borders mang:

Or the considerably pricier ~700$ Asus MG279Q that soon will hit the market. http://www.sweclockers.com/nyhet/20244-asus-mg279q-med-ips-panel-och-144-hz-utrustas-med-amd-freesync
The only reason I'm considering this one is the 144Hz refresh-rate and the FreeSync support built in through displayport 1.2a. It also has higher resolution at 2560*1440, but that's 16:9, so it ends up roughly equal in the end.
Other than that it's mostly the same speccs as the other screen (at least on paper).

So what do you guys think? I'm leaning towards the Dell currently, especially since I'm not planning on updating my GPU for another year or two, so driving modern games in above 60FPS at 1440p ain't happening. The FreeSync support is honestly a bigger deal than the 60+FPS. Adaptive sync is just wonderful.

I'm using a Dell Ultrasharp U2713HM at the moment, and I really enjoy the relatively big 2560x1440 resolution (bought it specifically for that reason when it was one of the first). I don't mind small fonts so multitasking gets a real boost (think about three a4 documents in a word processor next to eachother on the screen, all fully readable). I don't do any graphical stuff though, so I don't know if it would benefit you in any way with photo editing (I think not, raws won't fit anyway). I wouldn't recommend the screen, but maybe this gives some insight on the 2560x1440.

If you don't feel like 144Hz gaming I'd rather get two of those Dells instead of that Asus (like, you can buy another later if you feel like you could use the extra space).

BUT I am by no means interested and/or knowledgeable on the subject of screens.

I want to play that game so bad but I don't want to buy a 3DS.

Leave it to Searz to miss the obvious point of my post. But then again, I didn't quite expect you to figure that one out. Perhaps it's because you lack the deductive wit demonstrated by Sir Hershel Layton or ace attorney Phoenix Wright, or perhaps you do realize the meaning behind my post and choose to appear ignorant to its significant. Whatever the case, leave it to I, Toshabi; Master of Off Topic, to reveal the plot behind your ignorance to all.

Searz is being a jerk with this post (both OP and his response to me) and it's clear that he only made this topic to bait out a heated debate about a social issue no one really cares about. And the people who have responded to this thread (the one person other than myself who thinks they're interested in one of Searz many boring threads but aren't really) have fallen prey to the trap! Quickly! Seek the truth and free yourselves from the clutches of Searz Tyranny. Believe in something more true. Believe in a brighter tomorrow. Believe in an age where Searz is no longer a threat to my people. I command for my people to rise and take action to such a sea of trouble, and through our combined efforts, we can end him and bring forth an era of enlightenment.

Will you not stand with me brothers and sisters? Will you not stand for justice? Will you not stand for honor? Will you not stand for freedom? Step for my brethren and take action!

Yeah, I'm not too sure 16:9 is gonna be as good a fit. Editing is limited in height since my camera is using a 15:10 sensor (16:10 works pretty well since I can fit a control panel on the side and get the photo to fill the rest of the screen). But the increased resolution sure isn't gonna hurt at least. I'd rather have 2560*1600, but that's rare and generally not worth it right now, so it's 1920*1200 or simply 16:9.
Adaptive sync and 60+FPS is very tempting though.

And yeah, I wouldn't be buying that screen regardless. It's from 2012, the newer version would be the Dell Ultrasharp U2715H. It too has those sexy slim borders. Man, I love what Dell is doing with their screens right now. Super slim and sexy. They also did it with a tablet, but that looked like it would fit better on a phone, cuz ergonomics.
Dell seems to be doing some pretty good stuff in general since they bought back control over their company.

Nah, I'm not up for double monitors. My current desk just doesn't have the space.

Meeh, wait a few years, it'll be on emulators. In the meantime there are lots of good games to play, even on mobile.

I decided on the Dell US 2415 and I can't say that I'm anything other than very satisfied. There's a WORLD of difference between the viewing angles on this and my 8 years old Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW.
I love that they send a calibration report with the screen. The colors are great. Only blue deviates around 3dE (very slightly off), the rest are nearly perfect.
And despite the latter being classed as 5MS - while the Dell is classed as 8MS - I'm pretty sure the Dell is snappier in response times.
There's also no hissing when I adjust the brightness below 100, which along with the increased max brightness gives me a whole new range of visibility options for bright days and late nights :)

All in all very happy with it.
The only negative that I would have liked to see gone is the IPS-glow. But that's almost unavoidable today.

Look at my glorious battlestation now.

J***å? Det tror jag inte :P

Next up is getting light strips to attach to the back of my screen for more comfortable late-night lighting.
After that I'm gonna go for an adjustable table. I think they're often called sit/stand tables.
I have long legs, which screw up my sitting ergonomics at most tables since the table is too low.
