There's no clear definition in competitive either.

As the casters and analysts said in MSI concerning EDG, they were talking about how at one point or another, they were talking about each of the players as being the most critical in a particular game. Another thing they mentioned is how this tournament was very dependent on how the top-laners performed. Last season WCS it was the matchup of mid and ADCs.

In fact, even more so, since in competitive, it's a far more team-oriented atmosphere than soloqueue.

Honestly in this meta I feel like they either play a huge roll or none at all.

Freakin double jungle all game or teleport ganks for dayz............
I main...the entire top lane.
I miss: Tank Rengar top, AD Nidalee, Mash Keyboard Ryze...the OPs

I think it really depends on the match up ... like, I can tell when someone's playing a Champion that works well with their team or holds the advantage over other teams.

Example, a good Lux in the middle can easily push the lane where rival jungler has to constantly jump in, letting the other lanes go unwatched (or unattended for ganks). A great Thresh support will hook the right champions often, allowing teamfights to end up one sided with Thresh's team being the victor.

Also even if no one feeds on team A and team B has a feeder, the game can still go in favor of team B because of the teamwork overall. A fed Ashe can still be stopped if enough people work together to take her down, or if team B manages to snag Baron. The best role is when everyone works together to make the roles effective.

Playing all the roles myself, it's up for debate really. One match a Elise Jungler (since I use her) can wreck teams with no AD carry but other times i'll suck because a rival Lee Jungler will camp my side and own me, and Elise isn't good 1v1 at all. It depends again :)
Never give up on your Champion ... always keep trying.

Support. They practically give away their gold income, and focus on utilities that other roles simply don't. Like vision. You know, that thing that wins games?
