Are you dense? I've already explained to you, it wouldn't matter if I wrote a 20 page essay explaining it to you. Because, I'm the one explaining it. And, now someone with more knowledge that probably anyone here on this forum is explaining it in a video that you refuse to watch.

Techoftomorrow is NOT a reliable source lol. So isn't Linustechtips, Jayztwocents or pretty much any youtube reviewer out there. Reliable sources are renowned tech magazines or websites. In general written articles are more resourceful than videos.

Mmm... your salty AMD tears taste so good. Spoiler Alert: Those 'renowned' magazines get paid to give good reviews. They aren't reliable, because they get their pockets greased. And, neither is a sub-reddit poster such as yourself.

I could say the same for you, honestly. You're so obsessed with making AMD look bad, I wouldn't be surprised if some other company was lining your pockets for smearing the competition! But obviously that's unlikely as you've stated you can't afford a new computer.

You know what? I'm actually building a computer this week for a friend that has the exact same core as the system I recommended to some guys here earlier. i3 4160, R9 280. Let's see if it burns down, I'll get you proof.

I believe you. It would just be easier to believe you're trying to help if you weren't mostly trash talking the others for suggesting/liking AMD.

It doesn't have to burn out exactly, all it has to do is crash after some solid hours of gaming which it will without some sort of liquid cooling, or a very beefy after market fan. Because, AMD cards don't run as cool as nVidia cards. From what I can tell, Heroes of the Storm seems to eat up AMD's based on my friend's 290x. I would also recommend Projekt CD since their games favor nVidia. Most AAA developers turn to nVidia though, and for good reason.

I'll run some 3dmark if you want. Lol. My r9 290 hasn't burnt out after 6 hours of constant witcher.

Oh, we got a badass over here that hasn't given much detail is to why. At the end of the day, my 2-3 month payment plan method of getting a really strong PC will crush your pathetic AMD builds.

What would you recommend for memory?

Sorry for the late response.
Well, these are always a solid bet:

Cheap 1600MHz RAM with CL9 timings and without some overly extravagant heatsink. Big stompy heatsinks are stupid for RAM.

I got the 2*8GB VLP version myself. They're tiny as hell and run at a lower voltage (1.35 instead of 1.5, meaning less heat). They were one of the rare cheap memory sticks that ran on CL9 timings when I purchased them (1.5 years ago)

I'm not sure they are available in 2*4GB though.

Slig... a lot.

On a more serious note, I was wondering what programs I should use to overclock an CPU (I have an AMD on my desktop, and an I5 on my laptop). I've been avoiding overclocking these babies for years now, just because i'm like legit terrified of doing it.

NONE. NO PROGRAMS.
BIOS/UEFI ONLY
Overclocking programs often work like ****.
Find a good overclocking guide and follow it. I haven't overclocked an AMD CPU so my help will be limited to general stuff.
Just make sure you have some headroom with heat/noise then go to town with it.
Google has a job title called "Head of Black Community Engagement"..
I don't know whether to cry or laugh.. or both.
