I would like to chat, but the AMD morons will be here.

Seriously, don't start it again. That conversation is over and it should stay over.
You can call AMD a bad brand and express how much you love nVidia, but calling people who like AMD "morons" is really unnecessary.
Imma 'bout to end this man's whole career My rather unimpressive and slowly growing anime list! Currently watching:

BigBoxGamer, this is your chance to leave the argument from the other thread behind and actually contribute to a civil discussion. If you can't do that, please don't post in this one so other people can actually talk without the thread being locked.
That also goes for everyone else.
IPodPulse: When I bought my desktop (this year) I found logicalincrements.com to be pretty useful. If no one has mentioned that to you yet, it's worth a look. It organizes and categorizes PC parts by quality so you can look at compatible parts in your price range.

Thanks to The_Nameless_Bard for the sig!
If you are serious about an upgrade, I got a die-hard techie as a friend (you know him already). He can create an NewEgg list and cater to exactly what you are looking for and your price range. He would also build it for you in-person for a sandwich (I'm completely serious)
I've had a computer with both an AMD processor and a nvidia graphics card for over 2 years and it is still running amazingly. 10/10 would buy again. However, I think I could use some upgrades and maybe you guys can help!
Lemme list my specs;
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB
Processor: AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
8 gigs ram
Not sure what else I should list. I just copy pasted off the "can you run it" website.

One word of advice for everyone trying to get serious advice in this thread: be as specific as possible. We need to know what you're trying to achieve with a possible upgrade/build. Like: are you planning to play heavy games or things like League only. Are you going to be video editing, 3D editing or not at all? Think of everything we may need to know and post it in your question for us to be able to answer as well as possible.

Well that hardware is really ancient. I mean, it'll run simple stuff pretty decent because when it was released it was top-of-the-line hardware, but now it's getting old. It isn't as easy as just buying a new GPU because your CPU will probably be holding back the performance.
In that regard I'd mostly recommend just saving up till you can buy a completely new system, perhaps reusing one or two parts from the old system (like the hard drive). You can also shop for used hardware (like graphics card) is money is an issue.
As per above, please be more specific with what you really want out of a pc upgrade.

Unfortunately I am on my phone at the moment but when I do get computer access I'll make this thread a bit more cozier.
Let's talk tech!
