I'm not sure where you're coming from. He's very heavy DPS with this build; he's not meant to be tanky. He has Frozen Heart and Thornmail for the ~200 armor, AND the passive 20% CR/-20% AS of enemies/30% damage returned as magic damage. With him attacking quickly and dealing very heavy amounts of damage he's stealing enough life from Bloodthirster that he's recovering most of the damage done to him. He can seal off one to three members of the opposite team and completely decimate them. He might not be able to take on a heavy tank one-on-one very quickly, but if you're in a team fight that's a dumb idea anyway since you should be focusing the DPS, support, and/or mage first. You can drop non-tanks in no time flat.

I don't see how two armor items for survivability plus awesome passives for a DPS makes this an 'all around' guide 'neither one or the other,' when it's obviously a heavy DPS build.

Why not? Is there anything more to that?

i myself am looking for a good balance between the "tanky" and "dps" parts.
its obvious that full tank or full dps will lead in fail beceause Jarvan wasnt build for either of those purposes he is mainly supporting his team with great CC ability such as Cataclysm or his Q+E combo. however so far i cant find enough balance between those i either become too tanky and not enough dps and manage to survive but not deal enough dmg or get too dps and not enough tanky and then i have quite some dps but i die too quick, ill b sure to try your build aswell and ill let you know what happenes

Hey, guys, I updated some. Changed over to Jarvan, and changed to flat health quints for early game survivability.

I'm still assessing the Phage->Frozen Mallet + Trinity Force combo; I haven't had the chance to play him much lately with the change in the metagame shifting to pushing/farming rather than team fights.

So what are your idea of a build, focus on getting frozen mallet asap or later? Do you think that mallet and trinityforce would be good?

When i said phage earlier, I meant Frozen Mallet. For the Extra health that will stack with the Atma, but mainly because of the slow. Afterall, Jarvan isnt that great of a chaser, after using his flag combo.

I tried trinityforce/tank build and it seems to work pretty well to. 1 game i got like over 20 kills and 3 deaths something. Still its hard to tell if the team i met was just completely ******ed or if me and the build were just good :P Hope to see more comments and different builds for Jarvan :)

Personally, I don't think Jarvan has more to offer than other DPS chars such as Xin, Irelia, WW or Panth. If you want a real DPS, those are the ones you want to pick. I feel jarvan more in the line of Renekton, Nasus or Olaf. A tanky DPS that can initiate, take tons of dmg and still deal hell lot of it. This build is toatally wrong and I'm betting it will be easily owned at higher lvl's.

I'd go Phage, Trinity, Atma's and some other defensive items, depending on the team you are up against.

Down voting, because in my view you got the roll of this champ totally wrong. Sorry.

Well, that's your opinion, but I do appreciate the criticism and the suggestions.

Also, I don't mean that to sound conceited or unreasonable. I am taking what you said into consideration and working out the math to compare.
