Smoothed out the background a bit, it had a fading effect on photoshop before but the GIF program I used flattened it out and pixelated the **** out of it. Also changed the effect to be less focused on the eyes and a little bit more subtle.

Oh my gosh, the text looks amazing! I'm sure it's different with GIMP, but could you describe how you got the text to blink/glow/change colors?

Actually it's just that I duplicated the layer adding the sparks (which was on top of the text) and that brightened the text on the frames where it was duplicated. Since I used the blend filter, it just slowly pulses between the lighter and darker versions.
