I wouldn't say fanart, but they do look like splash arts someone on DA would post after adding color and changes to them in Microsoft Paint.

I am certain that this surprises you - most of the splash arts and these upgrades are done by quest artists from DA! :)
if you want to dispell any sort of bias towards the current artwork go look at the changes tot he karthus artwork and tell me that isn't a STRAIGHT DOWNGRADE from the current karthus art. (and totally unnecessary because he got new art not too long ago)

We should know that skulls and anything related to it is a taboo to Chinese culture, and Tencent is a Chinese company who COMPLETELY owns Riot now, so we should adjust according to their cultural standards.
Anyway, they tweaked Ahri and Hecarim's splash arts real good!

looks derp though. And I do not like the fact that they made Irelia's classic splash art to be like that. I like some of the splash arts, but some of them are bad. But not too bad (don't know what to say about
