I do know that it's unlikely RFC as a first item will be good. I think it'll be IE/ER or maybe even back to lethality. Storm will no longer be a rush item for sure, but it'll be a late game choice if you choose
My guess is IE > RFC > ER > Shiv > Storm as the "dont need defence and want maximum damage" build. The last 2 items being situational. Shiv for 100% crit, Storm if you go shiv, BT if you need lifesteal, GA if you need the defence, LDR/MR if u need the pen and PD if you need both crit and defence.
Until I get my hands on the items in ranked games, I can't suggest the best items no one can.
The problem with HoB is a few patches ago they made it so it didn't trigger on the first attack (which it before) making it so you pretty much only get 2 empowered shots instead of 3. Then they changed it again to make it so your 2nd/3rd and 4th shots get empowered.
Issue is you would literally need to fire all 4 shots without interruption for that to be good.
Dark Harvest on the other hand is way more consistent as it can proc off of abilities and can be done 100% of the time when someone gets below 50% making it just more reliable.
Jhin also prefers a damage keystone over a safe one (hence why Fleet isn't the spice right now)
Why got the whole route of fleet footwork over hail of blades. I know this is a common meta for jhin currently so I was really curious as to the thought put into that.
I *think* fleet will become better, but it will take a good week of testing to figure out if the bug fix will affect him enough to swap back to precision.
The only buffs I would consider is lowering his crit penality on
Love your guide btw, the attention to detail is beyond what I expected!
If HoB got a nerf, or the passive AS ratio of
Was very helpful in learning to understand the champion better.
Gave me a lot of insight on how to play as and against Jhin!
Great work!
With just a Youmuu's and a Doran's Blade you need about 10 seconds of Deathfire per activation of Thunderlord's to make Deathfire the better option. This isn't impossible since at about level 8, where you might have completed your Youmuus, Thunderlord's cooldown is roughly 20 seconds. However, while not impossible, 10 seconds of Deathfire every 20 seconds is still very difficult in laning phase, particularly since at that point your Flourish is on a 12.6 second cooldown. You'd have to purposefully stagger q -> w -> q -> q within 20 seconds to get 10 seconds of activation. That's extremely mana intensive in lane, and that's just to break even with Thunderlords's aa -> q -> aa every 20 seconds.
Deathfire is also a bit riskier, since if someone dives you, you would have to draw out the fight to at least 10 seconds to be able to get equivalent damage out of Deathfire as you could get almost instantly out of Thunderlord's.
While the number of seconds of application you need to break even lowers down to 5 seconds as you get to full build, Thunderlord's appears to be the obvious choice for early and midgame, and even late if you find yourself in a high pressure scenario requiring burst.
TL;DR The math behind Deathfire vs Thunderlord's seems pretty skewed. I'm curious why would you prefer Deathfire and not even mention Thunderlord's as an option for Jhin?
First and foremost, I need to test it more. Numbers are all well and good (and they are) but there is always more than meets the eye. For example, the highest damage build Jhin can go is ER > IE or IE > ER. The reason you don't do that is because of gold costs, even though it's the highest damage. Simply need to mess around with it more, but it does deserve a mention now rather than being totally obsolete.
Second, old habits die hard. I love the feel/playstyle of DFT. The burn feels great to play with but that's just me being stubborn. Basically more on point 1.
Third, TLD was always better for Jhin in the early game. The base damage alone made it stronger for laning. It's not new information that it's better for early pressure in lane.
Fourth, you can't reliably proc your TLD outside of lane. This is probably the biggest one here. You will get a LOT of mileage out of DFT with throwing out random W's in the midgame + landing ult shots on different targets. With the slow nerf, I've noticed people being able to move out of my ult or into a position behind an ally (thus making it impossible to trigger thunderlords). It's 100% possible to proc TLD, and you can do it semi-regularly if you land a W snare then 2 ult shots but against high elo players my pick is usually: W snare into ult, first ult shot misses because they dodge (unless it's later on when my snare lasts longer than a second) I will then need to immediately hit my second ult shot or I won't be able to trigger TLD as it has a 3s stack duration.
Fifth, the first 12 points in the cunning tree (in my opinion) are worse than 12 into resolve and the nerf to precision means battering blows will out perform it at a lower armour value as well. So all 17 previous mastery points are outclassed by other tree's (the first 12 being subjective, and with armour on nearly everyone including ADCs the APen/Lethality tossup is always going to be battering blows).
Sixth, you talk about burst on demand for when you're getting dove and the like. Say you're getting dove pre level 9. You will die. The 90 bonus damage you get if you trigger 3 attacks during the dive won't save your life often enough to use this as an example to take TLD over DFT. You'll also most likely be CC'd as well, making it even harder to proc TLD. When you're getting dove it doesn't matter if you have TLD or DFT because your goal is to survive that situation. Warlords would be better there.
Also in lane, you'll be using spells more often than once every 25s. That means the burn will start to be comparable to TLD, but just not as noticeable. Being able to Q 4th shot every time your Q and 4th shot is up will be (in general) better for quick trades, and will not proc TLD.
TLDR: Needs more testing, the instant burst of TLD is being valued higher than the consistent damage of DFT. Even in its nerfed state, outside of lane DFT will give you more damage than TLD would unless you proc TLD alarmingly easy (and in high elo, you'll only be proccing TLD in lane and with ulti, which is too situational compared to DFT) and you can't use the resolve tree.
That being said, if you find success with TLD and win more games than with DFT, go for it my dude. I think DFT is better because it's easier to proc and mid-late game it flat out will deal more damage. It's also got more options for masteries (resolve tree). Stats wise, DFT is still better for winrates.
