Nice build id just change the haste in the runes with attack speed since you'll have 100 ability haste anyways. :)
1
Seth346 (38) | February 27, 2022 3:12pm
It's pretty up in the air as to which is best. The 8 ability haste helps you hit the sweet spot sooner. That can be more valuable than the Attack speed in certain matchups. Against squishy-ranged champions, the AD is superior due to short but impactful trades.

Gunblade logic | January 18, 2022 2:20am
is conq better than elec?
1
Seth346 (38) | February 27, 2022 3:10pm
Depends on your playstyle. If you're going to do mostly short trades, elec is best. If you're looking to slap it out till a second rotation Conq is better. If you're going to play more cooldown oriented, Elec is best.

What runes do you recommend with the lethality build?
2
Seth346 (38) | February 27, 2022 3:10pm
I've found a better damage build than the lethality. You can see it under the test build now. This allows you to go ham on certain targets. You can use Galeforce to engage or disengage or finish a target. I've found it much more satisfying and practical than the meta build.

ez win against gnar

Good **** bro, glad it worked out for you! Gnar is usually a skill matchup so I'm glad you crushed it!

QDEX (2) | October 8, 2021 2:13am
this is a very different build! Looks like it could work though so I'll try it out in norms, also this is one of the only guides without youmuus which is insanely busted and it has hullbreaker which I don't think is very good on riven because she isn't suited to splitpushing
1
Seth346 (38) | October 8, 2021 11:39pm
Youmuu's is a good item, but it doesn't offer any durability. It gives ability haste, but in my build, you need no additional Ability haste.

You end up getting at least 78 Ability Haste. At this point you have about 45% CDR. If you want to surpass this value, it will cost you. For just another 10% cdr you need more than 40 Ability haste, which would be Black cleaver and youmuu's. While these aren't incredibly intensive on the build's resources, they do sacrifice quite a bit in gold efficiency and acquiration of stats.

Where something like Hullbreaker gives >198% gold efficiency, Youmuu's (99% (in combat) -127% (out of combat) and Black Cleaver (105%) pale in comparison of gold efficiency. Hullbreaker also costs less than either of these making the power spike much sooner.

Have you ended up trying it out? How did it go? The playstyle to make it work properly is much more split focused, but often I've found that's ideal anyways.
1
QDEX (2) | November 5, 2021 4:01pm
I've tried it out in flex and I can only make it work when I'm super fed but then I don't want to group which is usually what I like to do on riven, it's a very different playstyle that's for sure

Vighar (1) | August 1, 2021 3:04am
Incomplete, and is not simple. EDIT: They have listened to my pleas and my suggestions, Therefore the guide is now simple, AND complete.
1
Seth346 (38) | October 8, 2021 11:29pm
How so? On either accord. I would say something that considers itself complete may be simple but in that simplicity, worthless. Times change, as do information. Even people change. So anything that truly considers itself complete is worthless in a matter of time.
1
Vighar (1) | October 12, 2021 3:36am
Idk if you updated it or not, cuz i think it looks better now? anywho I'd like to see those "Full Build Example" thingies, since usually i just pop this durin the match and dont have much time to read everything, so i want things simple. Also having situational, best against, worst against, kinda item lists.

I have a problem, I haven't really played riven too much but I play her sometimes but I always feel like the auto-attack is too slow any recommendation on that?
1
Seth346 (38) | June 18, 2021 12:32pm
Her base Attack Speed is rather slow. Against characters with faster attack speed, often kiting around them will allow you to get the same damage amount while slowing down their damage due to them having to walk and then auto. Now, during the fast q combo, her Attack Speed is very high assuming you do it well.

After the nerfs to goredrinker and ravenous hydra on patch 11.3, does the build path differ?
1
Seth346 (38) | February 3, 2021 7:47am
I would presume so. Some people will still probably swear by the rav gore build. I think there will be other options, not many though. I'll get into testing here soon since the patch just dropped.

When do I use the out of spite build?
1
Seth346 (38) | January 29, 2021 4:38am
The out of spite build is an alternative to the normal goredrinker build. It deals an incredible amount of damage, but obviously isn't quite as durable. It takes a little more precision to pilot.

Use it into champions that would win short fights, the best example being Veigar or fed ADCS. Into situations like those you want to kill your target and be able to take down the rest, this build allows you to do just that.

Into a heavy tank comp, the normal goredrinker build would likely be the best.

Have I seen you on the Reddit by any chance? I recognize your name. Might've been on my stream. Regardless, good to see you, bud. Hope it goes well.

I do have a reddit under the same tag but I don't know if we've interacted on there before. Went 21/2/7 and 7/2/17 yesterday using Riv after reading your guide! :D (low elo though, to keep myself humble)

- Sir Wellington's Review Shop -

Cheat Sheet

+ You segmented the items well, so it's easy to read and understand.

- Where are Ionian Boots of Lucidity? You mentioned them briefly in your Runes notes, and they're a good choice of boots (from what I understand at least).

- In your ability sequence, you put a level in W at level 8 despite maxing it last, which delays max rank E till level 14. Was this intentional? It's odd and something I've never seen before in any build, so it would be worth mentioning in your notes if it wasn't a mistake.

About the Author

+ You've got all the credibility I could possibly think of, and then some.

- The last line of the LASTLY part hangs out awkwardly to the left. Align it with the rest of the paragraph (probably using columns).

Pros and Cons

+ Very nice addition of relevant ability icons to each pro/con.

Recent News

- Wait...why is this out of order? This section more so than any other should be as close to the top as possible, and definitely conform to the ToC (or if not, then update the ToC to match its position).

- The warding section is no longer recent (trinket auto-upgrade has been around for quite a while now)

Assistance from BoxBox

+ Adding BoxBox stuff gives your guide a LOT of credibility. I know there's a lot of hype surrounding BoxBox (maybe too much), but he's such an iconic Riven player that having any sort of reference or content is great.

- That said, did you get his permission to include his videos? This is your guide, your views, ratings, and popularity, so if you use his videos without his knowledge/permission then that's stealing his content. I'm kinda assuming everything's cool here because you and BoxBox probably know each other and he's totally fine with it; this is just one area that you REALLY don't want to screw up.

- Move the "Read before viewing" section before the actual videos. It doesn't make much sense where it is right now :P

- Add a video or GIF of The BoxBox play, or at least explain it better than a run-on sentence.

Extras

- Take out the spoiler at the beginning so the two links inside are easier to see.

- I recommend putting each change inside spoiler tags, with the spoiler name having the date and/or the current patch at the time. Few people want to read every single change you made, but some might be interested in the latest changes you made or anything since the start of Season 6, for example.

- Make "Thanks to those who helped" the title of the spoiler below it.

+ Nice addition of the burning laptop :P

Runes

- This section needs a full rework. Having the full gamut of all the runes you can use (especially in the vanilla wiki format ripped from the cheatsheet) crammed together in one long (and outdated?) picture is a little confusing and off-putting.

+ Try something like 2-3 distinct rune setups that you explain individually, like "vs. AD", "vs. AP" setup, etc.

- Spoilers should always have a title that indicates what's inside the spoiler, or have a humorous reason for straying from this rule. Having "Spoiler: Click to view" is like having "Chapter 1" instead of an actual chapter title.

Masteries

+ This setup is fantastic, and is exactly the kind of layout your Runes section needs!

- Feast should be Feast .
Code:
[[feast]] vs. [[mastery feast]]

Spells

+ Not much to say here. Very clear explanations.

Abilities

+ Very detailed and in-depth.

Level One

- Include an actual video (or even just a picture) to show us, not just tell us, what clipping is.

- The Level 2 Pop section needs some punctuation/grammar/cleanup.

- Two of your talking points here have videos, but the rest don't :(
Even though they're in your combos section, you should still add videos or pics of the Q3-AA-E-W combo and The Dekar, so readers don't have to bounce back and forth between guide sections.
Matchups

+ I love the pictures!

- Make the separation between image credits and your actual tips more clearly defined.

Forging Your Lead

- See above comment. The first two sentences in particular are very confusing together.

- Since the jungle rebalance a couple patches ago, farming without a jungle item is extremely inefficient in terms of gold and XP. You really should only farm jungle if A) you're twiddling your thumbs waiting for wave to crash on your tower to safely farm (or any similar scenario involving you not being able to farm minions), and B) your jungler is FAR away from your top side jungle and will not be farming it before the camps you take have time to respawn.

- You'll get tired of me saying this, but including videos of the combos/tricks you're talking about in each section of the guide is vital. Readers who don't know her combos will have to juggle all these ability names and sequences in their heads and try to visualize them until they get down to the combos section later on (or else flip back and forth between the two sections, which is even worse). Your combos section is fantastic, but you also need the videos in other parts of the guide when you first describe a combo so the reader can see it right then and there.
Extending Your Lead

- The gameplay videos here are a welcome addition, especially the short 20-second ones you made :)

General Build

+ Nice explanations and breakdown here.

Recovery From a Lost Lane

+ Nice breakdown of farming!

Teamfighting

+ Very clear definition of Riven's multiple roles in a teamfight.

Combo Section

+ This section is pretty tight!

- I now understand why your spoilers don't have names. I still don't like the idea of default spoiler tags hanging around a guide, but I can understand your format here since you want to be able to code the title and make it look fancy (which can't be done to spoiler tags). I guess it ultimately comes down to personal preference.
Conclusion:

This guide is super long and in-depth - it's quite clear that you REALLY know Riven inside and out. It's got great information, lots of humor, and (for the most part) great coding/formatting to help make it easier on the eyes.

However, it still struggles in a few areas: several sections desperately need videos or pictures describing what you're talking about (These are all gameplay sections, where in-game footage is most valuable - obviously something like the items section doesn't need a video). Remember: show, don't just tell.

One other problem I noticed that kept reoccurring is the lack of flow and organization. While your ToC generally makes sense (thought I would suggest putting Recent News before Pros/Cons, not after), many of your chapters are out of order (Which is confusing), making your ToC borderline useless (which is even more confusing). In addition, your current setup of describing a combo or trick in various parts of your guide and adding "look in the combos section for more details" instead of a video right there means the reader must flip back and forth between the section he's currently reading and your combos section to see what you're talking about. You can certainly go all in-depth in your combos section (that's what it's for), but having a video right there so the reader can immediately see what you're talking about is vital. It wouldn't be such a bad problem, but unfortunately it's made worse by the fact that your ToC and sections are out of order and your guide is extremely long, which leads to my next point...

Spend some quality time adding columns to your guide. Almost all of your content is in one long, wide, vertical flow, which makes reading the whole guide in one sitting a genuine challenge (it took me almost two hours). Separate your thoughts into two or three columns to compress your guide a bit and make it easier to read (so your readers won't constantly have to scroll down and can instead read left to right a bit more). It also makes your guide a lot more interesting and attractive, and relieves our eyes from staring at wide, centered paragraphs that never seem to stop coming (side note: you REALLY like using center tags. Try other styles to add variety). You did an excellent job with this in your Items section by putting 3 items in each spoiler and listing each item in individual columns, so the flow of information is left to right.

You've definitely earned a 4 out of 5 for this one. Amazing depth of content and great humor ftw.

Lemme know via pm if you want any clarity/additional feedback! I hope my review was helpful.

Look at what it's become. Took me over 12 hours today, it might as well be COMPLETELY new.

Lucidity boots aren't as needed as previous patches due to Black Cleaver not only being cheap, but allowing for great amounts of CDR. Most of the Riven builds right now also take another 10% CDR with either Death's Dance/Youmuu's which I consider required. This means that buying lucidity boots is overcapping on CDR for no real reason. 10% sum spell cd isn't as worth it without distortion as well.

I actually didn't tell why I get a point in w at level 8, but yes, surprisingly, its intentional. I get it because I can't stand my w dealing ****ty amounts of damage when I have plenty of items. Originally I believe that I said that getting it there is just my preference, I wouldn't say it isn't optimal, but it definitely is unusual.

Its using the float command, I'll just trim it down.

Thank you for noticing the correlation between those <3 I've always loved the relevance there but most viewers don't notice (or at least mention it xD)

Where would you prefer it to be? Near the build spot? Earlier I didn't think it really fit in the introduction and set up.

Where should i put the warding section? xD I honestly have had no clue for a while now xD

Everyone loves him and will take any advice. They're also videos that he's been harassed enough to make xD. All the wall hops, animation cancels, etc xD. It's something I could do if I wanted to dedicate a day and a lot of editing but many have already done it, and probably much nicer than I could. :)

I have credited him multiple times and its directly linked to his YouTube channel. I'm not making money off the guide, I could ask him again but I've sent him messages before and never gotten responses.

The move of read before viewing is done*

After an hour of searching for the clip, I found it on his channel xD

The spoiler had glitched, it was all supposed to be a spoiler and for some reason it wasn't working properly, it should be fixed now though. I don't have a /spoiler at that point, and I do have it at the end of all the changes :(. Maybe I reached the limit of text that can be in a spoiler? xD.

If you'd like I can send you an exact copy of the coding for it and you can tell me how to fix it. I just deleted the first half to see if it was a problem with amount of content. YUPPPP THAT FIXED IT! I've broken coding... lmfao I'm one of a kind xD.

I don't think I should make each change a spoiler. The point is if someone cares they can look. Not many people look though, or at least no one's commented on last valentines day secret message.

How do I make titles of spoilers?

I'm sorry, I have no clue how to make the titles, I would love if you'd teach me.

Could you also give me the coding for that stuff?

How do I make it the other feast? I couldn't figure out how to do that. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh jk

I actually don't have a video of third q auto ew out. I've done it plenty of times on stream but usually don't get a kill for this kind of thing. I'll make sure to highlight this soon and add it.

THANK YOU! I LOVE THE PICTURES TOO!!!!!!! XD
I put rules between them. The section needs to be updated but takes like 10 hours to get all the matchups. I would rather stream most of the time. I've been improving all of it for a while, except the matchup section. It's like a homework assignment do at the end of the year. That's a bad excuse, but maybe you understand.

After almost an hour, the changes to the matchup section are now completed!

Farming the jungle is definitly worth it, I don't care if the creeps didn't give gold at all, you're taking it from the enemy jungler. Gold, xp, all while your wave can be properly managed so that you don't lose much if any cs.

I put videos of all I have examples of, once I get to editing one of my coaching sessions, I'll include most of the tips and tricks into the guide.

I actually removed the "general build" section. I thought it was pretty clunky and I explain everything pretty extensively in the note spots on the cheat sheet. I have it saved elsewhere for some day if I return and want to edit it but I think it's kind of wasted space.

Not having a name for the spoiler isn't the case in all places, but absolutely for the combos, it looks much nicer like that imo.

YOU SOUND LIKE MY ENGLISH TEACHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
Show don't tell kinda **** xD
I feel that though, I need to pop in some vids, I'll do that soon.

My chapter ordering is interesting. In terms of the TOC I have it so that the sections are placed in chronological order according to the tab they're under. So recent news is third there, because its third in order of "general" while most of the set up is above that.

I don't think many people use the recent news section unless they're frequenters of the guide. It's not completely needed in the guide, but I feel its useful. Putting it higher would distract from the introduction. Would you like me to put my videos in 6 different places in my guide? xD I mean, I can do that. Some people think I made this guide just for video revenue or some ****, I guess this would augment their idea, but how can they really think that with all the other **** I have? xD. I'm sure there are plenty of better ways that require A LOT less effort :P.

As for a lot of the embeded videos, I wouldn't really be stealing anything from them. Not only do I credit them, but the video also directly links to their youtube channel, which means THEY earn money from the views. If I need to properly ask them I will, but getting a response from someone so well known is nearly impossible unless you're equally well known, even then it can be hard unless they randomly find you in a game xD.

Only two hours? YES! I'VE CUT IT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!
It's super detailed, in depth, and truly is a task to read it all in one sitting. That's part of the dedication to learning Riven. Riven isn't a champ you can just pick up and be great with like Anivia or some ****. There's so many things you have to think about, and my guide covers most if not all of them. Yet my guide is still maturing, even after 2 years? idk, maybe more. Also, yes, I would love to have someone code those really complicated columns that go for nearly an entire section and stuff like Limitless's guide, but I don't know foxy irl and he won't give me another review xD. I'd welcome anyone who wanted to help me with something like that. I think my guide is the best right now, it doesn't have the greatest coding which has always held it back. It's also much longer which makes it hard. I really tried to win that competition but after he got it, the rivalry was finished. He got featured and after me having almost a million views on him, he now has 2 mil on me. I'm still a little salty. FoxyRiven did all the coding for his guide apparently, and he just threw in all the content. FeelsBadMan

My centering was kind of ****ed up in two sections, I fixed that with the most recent edits.

XDDDDDDDDD those ****ing columns n **** was so hard to do :). Then I come back to it realizing how damn outdated it is with my main build and how long it'd take to rework. I think I'll just use the cheat sheet and notes to explain that section instead of updating it every patch or some **** xD.

Thank you for the review! It's been very helpful! :)

I've improved my guide a lot with all of your input. Take a rep and some credit in my credit category xD.

Thanks again!

LimitlessHavoc (29) | June 7, 2016 3:27am
I don't know where you got this info from but Foxy isn't an IRL friend and I did most of the coding on my guide.

My guide vs The template Foxy made for me (aside for the ToC)

I'm not trying to belittle Foxy's help as he gave me an epic start to my guide and really helped me neaten out my original guide via the removal of chapters, he also gave me the most advice on how to improve the aesthetics of my guide and if I ever had coding issues I could easily turn to him for help or look at his coding guide.

However what I don't like is your false claim that Foxy coded my entire guide for me, compare the template to my current guide and you can clearly see that I've done most of the coding utilising amazing resources available to ALL mobafire users such as JhoiJhois coding guide. I wish it was as easy as copying and pasting text into a premade guide but it wasn't, Foxy coded a template for me, the fact you make claims that I copy and pasted my content into a premade guide comes off as insulting and looks like an attempt to belittle the work I put into my guide.

Also you seem a bit too obsessed about coding, yes coding is nice and enhances a guide but most guide viewers either look at your cheatsheet or read your guide, in both cases the most important thing is content. Your coding isn't that bad so I'm sure if your content truly was the best, as you say, you'd be miles ahead of me in views but you're not and choosing to blame it all on coding is slightly ignorant. I think you also exaggerate the length of your guide, your matchup section heavily inflates its length and it's actually not that much longer than my guide.

side by side comparison of the scroll bar at the start and end of your matchups sections

Also the guide competition was really only noticed by 300~(me being generous) people? Do you actually think that's a legitimate reason why my guide over took yours? You are right, being featured attracts a lot of views but you need to think about the reason I was featured in the first place.

After thinking about it more, I kinda agree with you on this one. If you change it to focus more closely on recent changes to Riven and how she fits into the current meta, it would be worth putting in somewhere among the first few sections (overview), before you dive into the meaty things like masteries/abilities/gameplay.

Seth346 wrote:

I can't remember if I actually mentioned this, but you should expand it to a full section along with the rest. Include pictures or a large, detailed graph of Summoner's Rift, a part on lane phase warding, a part on mid/lategame objective warding, pink warding, and any other important info you want to include as well. It would fit well among your gameplay sections later on in the guide.

Seth346 wrote:

Have you thought about putting all the changes in a single spoiler? It would be simpler for you, and make it simpler for the people who read the whole thing. Just something to consider; it's up to you what you do with this section.

Seth346 wrote:

I'm happy to! It's quite easy:
Code:
[spoiler=insert custom spoiler title here!]spoiler text here[/spoiler]

Seth346 wrote:

For spoiler titles or for the runes section? Spoiler titles unfortunately cannot be coded at all, which sucks. If you want help coding the runes section, I can do that.

Seth346 wrote:

There's 3 (I think) masteries and abilities that share names: Feast / Feast, Savagery / Savagery, and Perseverance / Perseverance. Something to remember if you make a second guide and mention them in it.

Ahhhh I totally missed that you meant the ENEMY jungle. oops. Yeah of course it's great to counterjungle! I was just talking about taking camps from your own jungle and how it can set the jungler behind if timed poorly.

I can understand how it works from your perspective (makes sense once I understood it), but my first time through it was still confusing because it's set up differently than a typical TOC. I would recommend either changing the TOC to match your layout in the guide (scrolling top to bottom the whole way through, like a book would), or move around the guide sections to match the TOC.

Seth346 wrote:

Lol I had no idea people thought that...kinda lame accusation, since this is your guide and your chance to advertise your stuff. Pooh pooh the naysayers! As for the guide itself, I guess the ideal setup would be a simple GIF of a combo where you describe it, then a full video of it later on in your combos section. Obviously that's a lot of work that you probably don't have time for, so it's up to you to determine how far you want to go with it. Just as a general rule of thumb however, clarity trumps simplicity. Making sure your readers understand the most important parts of your guide is more important than making sure you don't go overboard with all the content in it, since it IS several miles deep after all :P

The overall goal is for the reader to be able to read the guide from top to bottom in one unbroken flow, and not have to skip back and forth between sections unless they prefer to do it that way (this is also the reason for the above suggestion for the TOC).

If I need to properly ask them I will, but getting a response from someone so well known is nearly impossible unless you're equally well known, even then it can be hard unless they randomly find you in a game xD.

I didn't consider how hard it would be to get them to respond. The danger of anything bad actually happening is very low, so you should probably be fine. It's just something good to keep in mind when using other people's content :)

FeelsBadMan

I originally wrote my Xin Zhao guide because all of the top 4 were pretty awful or horribly outdated (usually both). By the time I was done I was fairly confident I had the best Xin guide on the internet in terms of content and presentation, but it's going to be a loooonnggggg time before I catch up to aiker95's 6.4 million views because he published his back in 2011. I know the feeling :(
