I'm only just returning to League (and kinda not really) having not played since Taliyah dropped, so to be honest I have no real plans to update this guide - that said, it's not impossible that I might take at least a limited pass at it at some point, but no promises!
Generally top is a more tanky environment than mid, so you might find yourself prioritising Armour Penetration earlier than in mid - possibly taking a Youmuu's over an Infinity Edge as your first item if you're against a real ironclad beast like Malphite, but the play pattern is generally the same; namely be as aggressive as you can and keep your opponent recalling.
The main reason Kindred struggles in top is because of her need to farm marked jungle camps, and the island of top puts you far away from any marks that appear on the lower side of the map - as well as further away from potential hunts on an overextended botlane.
Taking teleport can still get you where you need to be quickly, but a savvy toplaner can punish you far more harshly than in mid if you teleport away, since you have much further to travel to get back.
The short answer I guess is Kindred kind of works top, but she's less optimal there and the advantages she brings to mid greatly outweigh the ones she brings top. Hope that's helpful!
And why not Attack Speed Runes ?
In terms of Attack Speed runes, Kindred is generally better served with damage over attack speed because it translates better to early kill potential.
Kindred's value is in being able to dominate the lane early, getting kills but also more crucially, keeping your opponent out of lane through either constantly having to recall or by being dead.
Attack Speed runes are a workable choice for mid to late game, but I still maintain that AD or Armour Penetration give Kindred a far stronger start that should get you rolling hard enough that you can be impactful more immediately and snowball like a monster
I absolutely LOVE your in-depth guide for Kindred mid-laner. She is indeed very good for fast kills because of her damage so I also think she's suitable for mid. I myself am trying to master Kindred mid-lane because I grew out of ADC and don't feel that is my place. I am a horrible jungler as well..So I didn't know what would be left for this amazing champion.
I went asking and googling around what would else be left for her to do. top? possible..But not really my style. Plus it sounds very hard as she is very squishy. I haven't played much mid, but I do start to like it a lot more than ADC.
I was wondering if you would be able to update this guide a little more, I've heard BotRK is not really a favor for a lot of people considering it has been nerfed(?). Or perhaps some other items that you consider replacing as of now. I would be very curious to see what you would update; there are lot of guides out there that prefer another series of item sets. By all means I'm not saying your choices are wrong, not at all. There are just a lot of different opinions!
Anywho, thank you for reading this as I'll await an answer. c:
