You should probably work on your ability to close games (aim for objectives after any kill, learn to play around both objectives and your teammates, don't get too aggresive just because you're winning) instead of asking for advice on voli, since your problem isn't dependant on your mechanics but on your strategic play.
I did stop playing

Funnily enough, I too abandoned Voli top ages ago after I realized I couldn't carry my entire team from the top lane. I recently picked him back up in the jungle, and I have to say it's much easier making stuff happen with
Volibear from there. You can get your lanes really far ahead early, kill and enemy jungler that tries to invade due to your passive, and build full tank late game and just peel.

Good points. I think your right about peeling instead of engaging, In retrospect I was initiating during team fights in that loss.
I switched to Xin after that epic loss and I'm currently undefeated on him. Also going to finally pick up Vi, played some normals with her and she feels broken and op.
I have tried Hecrim but the early game feels very weak and im vunerable to counter jungling.

I used to care about KDA, now I care about CS and Objectives.
TBH the part about going in to initiate/kill priority targets is still my most common grave mistake whenever I play voli, but it's only because that's his intended playstyle during his mid-game powerspike. So yeah, have that in mind and try to close games fast with him.
Heh, I also transitioned from
Volibear to
Vi this season before abandoning the jungle altogether.

My problem -- turning personal advantage into wins.
I very recently lost a game where I was 23-2-10 as Volibear in 20ish minutes and lost the game.
I would gank a lane, and get multi kills but all my teammates would die and I would live with minimal health. So I found it hard to actually turn that winning fight into an objective and since the game got dragged out for so long eventually everyone got full build and we lost. (finished 30-4-(i forget assists) KDA)
Full Tank volibear lack the ability to quickly take towers, my damage is in my bite and Ult neither of which affects towers/inhibs. Its the same frustration as last season, tons of CS and Kills/Assists but end up losing.
So basically should I give up on him or what can I do to make sure that a low health voli can solo take objectives quickly.
