Very new to Mobas & lol - Trying Kalista during this free rotation for the first time.

EXCELLENT resource not only for her but all ADC's MF's my fav.

Really tough because I am learning EVERYTHING from scratch. The better the explanation the more thoroughly I understand their functionality to begin practicing with them rather than fudging around w/my own ideas for an hour.

Thank you for the in depth insight into Kalista as well as the very helpful adc tips

Hi fun guide but its very outdated, as the guide itself doesnt cover the runes, keep up the good work though

Glad you like the guide despite the runes issue. I'm working on getting a new Runes format for all my guides to make them easier to update, currently updating runes is too much coding work which I'm inexperienced with.

Great guide! Well organized and easy to understand, plus great links to videos that are extremely helpful not only for this champion, but for play in general.
Thanks!

About runes. In the guide u advice to use precision + sorcery, but in top of the guide there is precision + domination now. Which one is better?))

Domination is better.

What do you think about running lethal tempo on Kalista?

It's not good, Press the Attack is much better.

I have no plans to make an Ekko guide currently sorry. Might happen in the future but I have no ETA for it.

Hey there.
I read your guide to begin my journey as a marksman main(not this one), and it has been helpful, I appreciate it very much.
However, I would like to raise the same concern as the other person had done in the comment section, you would need to put in more specific information about this champion that your guide is directed at. Your guides all look the same and it basically has the large chunk copied and pasted over, about laning, hitting lv2, who to aim... etc. These information are of course useful, but besides these we would all want to read more specific stuff, like how to play against a certain champion, when is your power spike, how you should perform in certain situations etc...
Of course all ADC guides will appear similar, because they are the champions of the same role. However, people came into this guide to read about Kalista rather than ADCs as a whole. Giving general information about ADCs would not be as helpful as giving specific tips and playstyle about this champion. Many of us are people who played other ADCs and looking forward to pick up Kalista, then this guide is next to useless to us, because it has been saying the same things that we already knew.
I do not mean to disrespect your effort, but this is really lackluster in my opinion. You did not explain your item build and masteries, you did not elaborate enough on her skills. Given Kalista's unique mechanism in attack moving, we would expect a lot more than what we are seeing.
Sorry if this seems critical, but I would really love to see better content from you.

The thing is, this is a mechanical skill, I can't teach you how to do this. When I learnt how to attack move and orb walk, it wasn't something I could read about to learn, it was just something I had to practice over and over and over until it eventually became passable and then later on very good.

Kalista as a champion is very simple to explain but not that simple to execute. Her winrate is so low yet she's permabanned at Worlds, because she's very good, and yet very hard to master. No amount of reading will help you master the champion, only playing it will.

The only unique Kalista mechanics I can think of that you might actually need explaining to if you're a newbie explain are:

1. Harassing with auto-attacks then last-hitting a minion with E so you get E off on your enemy without losing the CD or any mana.

2. You can buffer your Q mid-jump to immediately Q when you finish your jump and then immediately enter another jump (this should be kinda intuitive though once you actually play the champion).

The rest is a case of just learning to execute it probably, but you need to play the champion for that, not read a guide about it. All I can teach you in a guide is the macro side of Kalista, which is almost the same macro part of any ADC. There's no mechanics that need explaining, she has no combos, no unique interactions with her spells, no need to learn what X spell can do and what it can't; it does what it says it does, and you just have to learn to execute that properly.

In my Kassadin guide for example I teach what the optimal spell rotations are for Kassadin, which is unique to Kassadin, but Kalista and most other ADCs just don't have anything like that. You auto-attack, you orb-walk and you use your Q to help you kite + increase your damage output, but you don't need to be explained this is, it's just very straight forward. But you need to be good enough to execute it well and that's up to you, not me.

how to play against a certain champion

I don't like doing matchup chapters because in the end it's really very simple to explain how they go. Good matchup? Play aggressively, push up and try to get tower damage if possible, force trades. Bad matchup? Avoid trades, let the enemy push you under tower and try to safely last-hit there.

Not to mention it's hard to exactly explain what is and isn't a good matchup because supports influence the equation too; and if I were to try and explain how supports influence matchups, that's just yet another chapter of copy and pasting onto each of my ADC guides that you just criticised me for.

Aside from that as well, player skill is also a factor. As Tristana should I win lane and play aggressively vs a Lucian? No. Do I frequently do that anyway if the Lucian player is bad enough? Yes. But if I'm just telling you "this is a bad matchup, play like a *****", you're going to play like a ***** against a potentially worse player and then you might end up losing the game because you played a lane that you could have stomped as a losing matchup, and lost lane because of it. You should be using your own sense experience and adaptation to learn how to play a matchup as it progresses; just like if you fall behind because of a gank and start losing lane in what should be a good matchup you need to adapt to the situation and start playing defensively, you should be relying on your own intelligence and common sense to know how the lane should have been played to begin with; if you the lane starts off with you losing trades, then that's probably the cue to stop forcing trades, no matter what the champions are and what you read in a guide.

Individual champion kits are also really self explanatory as to how to deal with them if you know what the champion does. Sivir has a skillshot? Dodge it. Sivir has a spell shield? Try to wait it out or wait for her to waste it before using Rend. Kog'maw has a range increasing spell that increases his damage? Don't try to trade with him while he has it up. Just read what the champion does (or know by default if you've already played vs them before) and your own common sense should tell you how to play around that specific champion.

When I used to write matchups in the past in my guides I just ended up feeling like it was a waste of time and that everything I was explaining was just common sense that anyone would know if they knew what the enemy champion did. "Dodge Anivia Q or her E does a lot of damage". "Don't get baited by her passive". "Ziggs has a low CD skillshot, try to dodge it". Etc. The most use I found for them was just to explain what was generally considered a good matchup and a bad matchup, but like I already explained even that goes out the window if player skills make up for it; and you don't need to me to tell you what a bad matchup is to play defensively when you're getting your *** kicked, or play aggressively when your kicking the opposing laner's ***.

My guides could definitely have more information in them, since like I said I never claimed they're as in-depth as an ADC guide could possibly be, but I do believe they include all the most important information in them, this guide being no exception.
