I've always played Ahri as an assassin over anything else and my favorite version of her was when she had the damage amp on Charm, so it'll be cool to see it back. Even if they choose to go with a version without the damage amp, she's trading movespeed for damage which I'll take any day.
I think she'll end up being over-tuned tbh, but I won't be complaining :^)
Also, looks like it's being delayed til 8.7 or later.
Did you really? Or are you just pretending you did to have an excuse to comment to farm raffle points?
Also, what are your thoughts on Gunblade? It's probably a pretty decent 2nd item, pretty similar to old DFG I'd say. What I like about the new patch is that Deathcap becomes a viable second item, too, just that it takes a literal eternity to build lol.
New Deathcap is sweet, I quite like going Luden's into Deathcap or Deathcap 3rd now, but ONLY if I back at a time where I can grab a Rod straight up. It can be pretty awkward in cases where you have to sit on 1,000 ish gold after backing, so it's a good idea to plan ahead when you're thinking of going Deathcap.
I don't like Gunblade on Ahri, it's so expensive and the stats you get for the cost just aren't good for Ahri. The healing you get from it is quite bad because of Orb being AoE, and it also has a terrible build path cause of Cutlass + 700 combine cost. Also also, you're delaying other important items by a long time if you build Gunblade (Void, DCAP, more CDR).
The only 'good' thing Ahri gets out of Gunblade is the active, but it's still not good enough to make it an optimal item choice on her. You're much better off with any other additional damage source item that's commonly built on Ahri (Proto, Lich, Spellbinder).
And like you said, the biggest problem about it is its cost, you really need to be able to get Cutlass in one buy. It's essentially a more expensive Protobelt.
Preference is indeed the biggest factor with Ahri. She has a ton of viable items and builds and there's never really a right or wrong way to build her (within reason).
