‎‎ ‎ Introduction

Welcome back LEC fans and fantasy enthusiasts! In this entry we'll be covering the group stage so far and the matchups yet to come. There were already 2 spots in the playoffs for grabs, but the competition is fierce. The others find themselves with their backs against the wall as they cannot afford losing a second series. Stakes are very high so we can't wait for more banger games!

‎‎ ‎ Fantasy Leaderboards

As our weekly winner we have a familiar face! Congratulations to deltaop as they are back on top of the standings. Their decision to grant Yike the captain role has netted them with lots of points so far thanks to some fantastic Lillia gaming by the G2 jungler. Former weekly winners BloomBB and krabydee remain in the top 10 for now, at places 2 and 9 respectively. It's going back and forth, no way to tell who'll be leading the leaderboard next week!

🏁 Group A Match 1

Coming into this series, Vitality was the clear favourite, having finished 1st in the regular season. Game 1 only seemed to confirm those expectations with a quick stomp. Heretics opted into an aggressive Caitlyn + Varus botlane, but did not look very comfortable on it. The Vitality botlane consisting of Ezreal and Karma eventually got a 2v2 kill while Bo was having a field day on Kindred. The botlane control eventually spiraled into domination of the entire map, and Bo's Lamb's Respite made it nearly impossible for Heretics to get any sort of picks for themselves. A 23 minute Ocean Soul into Baron 2 minutes later meant Vitality could easily close out the game moments later.

Game 2 was almost identical to the first one, but this time the roles were reversed. With their backs against the wall, Heretics went back to their comfort and locked in Zeri and (the somewhat uncommon nowadays) Nautilus for their botlane. At only 2 minutes Jackspektra and Mersa killed their lane opponents, handing 2 early invaluable kills to the Zeri. Jankos' help put them even further ahead, allowing Mersa to roam even topside to help out his sololaners. The insane botlane advantage snowballed into a 22 minute Infernal Soul and nothing that Vitality could do to stop Heretics from tieing up the series.

As fast and onesided the first 2 games had been, so nerve wrecking and close the final game was. Vitality took the first few kills, but a Rift Herald attempt turned around into Heretic's favour. The two teams would be trading over kills for the entire game. Though it was not one of Jankos' best games. His Vi got caught out several times, resulting in a Baron and Ocean Soul for Team Vitality. Though Bo's great Kindred and Kaiser's Renata Glasc made Jankos' job very difficult. Despite the hardships, Heretics refused to back down and kept the game even for a fairly long time. Unfortunately for them, a failed engage from Jankos gave over another Baron and sealed Heretics' fate. Victory for Vitality, but both teams definitely gave it their all.

🏁 Group A Match 2

SK came off a solid regular season run, while KOI failed to reach the level of play that won Rogue the 2022 summer split. Up until now that was. Malrang put up a tent in the midlane, killing Sertuss' Jayce thrice in a row and setting up Larssen's Sylas beautifully. Meanwhile SK could get something back through a botlane 2v2 kill - yet again Exakick and Doss showing strong laning. Though eventually the flaws in SK's draft started to show. Even when getting picks, they lacked the damage to capitalize on those windows. With Sertuss set behind so far, only Exakick's Xayah could somewhat deal with Malrang's Sejuani. KOI slowly but steadily closed out the game on the back of strong performances by Malrang and Larssen, match point for KOI.

In game 2 SK tried to throw a curveball by pulling out the Amumu jungle for Markoon (first played by FLY Spica in LCS). Though KOI was left free to lock in Sejuani and Sylas once again. And this time Malrang played more towards the botlane, resulting in first blood for Comp's Lucian. A few minutes later the game accelerated when Malrang swept in and stole the Rift Herald from Markoon. Laners started to rotate, but things only went from bad to worse for SK, handing KOI another 2 kills. Markoon's Amumu was still able to get a few picks for the side of SK, but meanwhile KOI continued to press their advantages on the bottom half of the map. Larssen and Comp acquired big leads for themselves and the game looked decided already. Fortunately for them, SK's Sion pick proved extremely valuable into KOI's team. Neither the Sylas nor Lucian could quickly deal with the tanky frontliner, so SK was handed some more breathing room. A Baron steal by Markoon further soldified their hope, but 2 minutes later KOI took home the game after a clean 5v5 teamfight. With a huge shout-out to Larssen finding a massive flank. SK will have to bounce back in the lower bracket.

🏁 Group B Match 1

Considering these 2 teams, it's not very surprising that this series turned out to be an absolute blood bath. Lots of action in the botlane with kills going both ways, in the 2v2 but also junglers and midlaners often roaming down. Both teams went toe to toe for a while, but if there's one thing MAD is known for, it is their teamfighting. Finn was having a good game on Jax vs Chasy's K'Sante, but MAD's comp insane amounts of zone control and CC between their Azir, Nami and Maokai, making Finn's job way harder. MAD did not have much trouble closing out the game from that point on, leading the series 1-0.

Astralis had to make some changes in order to regain the momentum, and so they did. 113 opted into the recently buffed Jarvan IV, Dajor had a much better game on Sylas and the botlane locked in the Lucian + Nami combo they've succesfully pulled off before. An early botlane towerdive from MAD went messy as 3 kills were traded over for both sides. Luckily for Astralis it was a perfect game for Sylas. Dajor turned MAD's Cease and Desist and Enchanted Crystal Arrow against themselves. Combined with 113's engage and Astralis had a good time picking up kills left and right. Even though Carzzy could cash out on his Draven sometimes, Astralis' comp proved hard to play into and they executed it perfectly. And so the series went to a game 3.

Both teams went all out for the final game. Astralis cooked up some dark sorcery with Cassiopeia botlane for Kobbe and AP Twitch support for Jeonghoon. Early on this unusual combo definitely showed its power, 113's Vi only has to engage and the target can never escape the Miasma. And Twitch could show up anywhere on the map at all times. The game went even for over 20 minutes, but Chasy was desperate to carry his team as K'Sante. MAD's toplaner eventually decided the game with a beautiful 3-man knockup at the final Dragon fight and ended the game with a stellar 9/1/6 KDA.

🏁 Group B Match 2

In the series of the week, BDS went up against G2. Both teams immediately came out with the big guns. Adam pulled out yet another rather unusual champion with Garen, while G2 jungler Yike opted into Lillia. The latter had a field day into BDS' low range comp, and the 3 kills he racked up around min 6 surely did not help BDS' case. Adam on that other spicy pick also showed his prowess as he decided to just run down BrokenBlade's Jax under his own turret for a quick and easy solokill. Impressive showcase of knowing the limits of your champion perfectly. And while BDS definitely had good moments, Crownie even stacking up kills as Zeri, the fed Lillia dominated the game. A tense Baron standoff sealed BDS' fate as Yike flashed into a 3-man Lilting Lullaby while Hans Sama' Kai'Sa cleaned up the fight. 1-0 for G2 Esports.

BDS were unfazed by game 2 and brought the change necessary to bounce back. A strong performance from their mid-jungle duo Nuc & Sheo on Azir and Elise won them the early game. Thanks to their effort, Yike's Bel'Veth could never get the ball rolling, which neutralised the pick. As the game went on, the flaws in G2's draft became more and more apparant as Adam's signature Olaf could easily run down G2's low range composition. And Their lack of waveclear made it incredibly hard to defend from BDS' siege. One final teamfight initiated by Caps' Sylas was but a feeble attempt as BDS was simply too far ahead at that point. Thus BDS confirmed that they can most definitely go toe to toe with the big teams.

G2 clearly took that game 2 personal. For the final game they went back to what worked earlier for them, with Yike on Lillia again. Caps roamed bot early with his Jayce and got the ball rolling. BB got back on Adam with a solo kill up topside. Then a Rift Herald attempt from BDS went south and G2 quickly became an unstoppable freight train. Before 15 min the gold lead was already 7k in favour of G2 and uncharacteristically for G2, they played the game out in a clean fashion. The game was over before 23 min, G2's gold lead reached an insane 18k. With absolute brutal domination, G2 sent BDS to the lower bracket.

🏁 Group A Match 3

Vitality faced off against KOI with the first spot in playoffs at stake. The early game was fairly quiet, but down in the botlane a thunderstorm was brewing. Before the 10 minute mark, Comp and Trymbi had already taken down an entire turret including all those plates, and that without any jungle help. This should not really happen when you're playing a hypercarry Zeri and Soraka into Sivir and Lulu. But it did and Comp was accelerated massively thanks to it. A 5v5 Herald fight gifted the KOI ADC even more kills. Vitality responded fairly well by succesfully sneaking a Baron, but in the meantime KOI was given over the Chemtech Soul. Any fights that broke out afterwards always ended in KOI's favour as Vitality had no way to lock down Comp, especially not with a Soraka by his side. Comp ended the game 7/0/5, as to make a statement after middling regular season weeks.

Vitality took some risks for game 2, but it did not work out. The KOI botlane smashed the 2v2 again. Bo tried to salvage the lane on his risky Nidalee pick, but Malrang is always there. In fact, Malrang was everywhere to stop Bo from gaining any leads, rendering the Nidalee useless for the rest of the game. Vitality eventually gained back a few kills during skirmishes, but almost all trades ended in favour of KOI. Comp and Larssen were free to dish out damage on their Sivir and Azir respectively, while Vitality's only reliable target access was a rather squishy Nautilus. KOI convincingly took down Vitality and are suddenly looking great heading into playoffs.

🏁 Group B Match 3

MAD and G2 faced off for a chance at qualifying early to the playoffs. G2 had clearly learnt from their series against BDS and started at full intensity. BrokenBlade picked Olaf for himself this time and Yike returned to Lillia. G2 already took first blood at level 1, capitalizing on Chasy running Ghost instead of Flash on K'Sante. Then for the rest of the early game, G2 would towerdive and force picks over and over, giving MAD some kills back at time. Though it was more or less even until the 3rd Drake fight. MAD overstepped in their eagerness and paid a heavy price. Hans Sama's Draven cashed in hard and suddenly MAD could only really look for the sporadic number advantage. G2 proceeded to stomp their way to victory.

MAD had to crawl their way back into the series, and for a while it looked pretty good. They found a pressure point in their mid-jungle, especially with Nisqy showing moments of brilliance on Sylas. However, overeagerness moments later resulted in Hans Sama's Draven getting a huge cash out and shut down once again. Still MAD Lions found a lot of windows to press their advantages and they were winning most of the fights, although they could never actually take down Hans Sama. This came to haunt them when Hans Sama acquired so much gold he became virtually unstoppable, while Caps' Kassadin had finally scaled up as well. It all fell apart for MAD Lions and one last split up teamfight sealed their fate. And so G2 joined KOI as the first 2 teams to lock their spot in the playoffs.

‎‎ ‎ Week 2 Preview

📺 Saturday - Games To Watch

SK Gaming vs Team Heretics SK and Heretics have one more chance at making it to playoffs. Both teams want to bounce back after their loss last week. SK got clean swept by a very strong KOI, but no shame in losing to them. TH had a very competitive series against Vitality, will the dice finally roll in their favour vs SK? The winner will face Vitality on Sunday.

Team BDS vs Astralis Astralis and BDS face off in the ultimate battle of the underdogs. Both teams performed better than expected and put up respectable performances against G2 and MAD. Either team that learns and improves the most from last week's defeat can take it. The day after follows a final shot at playoffs vs MAD.

📺 Sunday - Games To Watch

Team Vitality vs TBD After a great regular season run and first place finish, Vitality have shown some glaring weaknesses during the Bo3 stage. Mainly the botlane did not have the best time against KOI and there are questions being raised concerning their champion pools. Still, Vitality is a good team with strong players across the board and should be favourites to make it into playoffs.

MAD Lions vs TBD Last series against G2 did not go according to plan, but if Nisqy and Chasy continue to perform this well and reduce the overaggression, MAD shouldn't fear either opponent. However, Astralis has already shown they can put up a good fight and BDS actually beat MAD during the regular season. Promise of an interesting match either way.

📺 Monday - Games To Watch

As of the time of writing, there is not yet any clarity on the schedule for the playoff stage. It is possible we'll be getting a first series on Monday already, but nothing has been announced yet.
