‎‎ ‎ Introduction

Hello and welcome back to the coverage of LEC Spring and the E-Go Fantasy tournament. We're over halfway the regular season and everything is still up for grabs. The standings are insanely close, so all is set up for a banger final week.

Join us for a recap of the last week's games, what to look out for in the upcoming games and an update on the fantasy leaderboard.

‎‎ ‎ Fantasy Leaderboards

Just like the LEC standings, the Fantasy League standings have changed rapidly. Out of our top 10 last week, no one managed to keep their spot at the top. Make way for our new number 1, hagelregn! The inclusion of several stand-out performers such as Jankos and Crownie secured them this week's top spot. Though be wary, the standings are overall still very close together. Who will have retained their top 10 spot after week 3?

If there's anything that last week taught us, it's that no team is unbeatable. While we had 2 undefeated teams last week, every single squad has lost at least 2 games over the past 6. Apart from that, the top of our standings is still more or less as expected, or at the very least similar to last split. Vitality and G2 are still up there, but both have lost to giant slayer Astralis. SK had a tough schedule, facing both Vitality and KOI, but they are still in a good position. BDS almost finds themselves at the top, similar to last split. Question is, can they continue that form in group stage unlike last time?

Both Astralis and KOI sit at the middle of the pack with 3 wins and losses. Both teams took wins against G2 and some of the other tougher opponents, while also dropping against the perceived 'weaker' teams. Their form on the day is clearly important, but unless things go incredibly wrong, both teams shouldn't worry too much about making top 8.

The 7th place is currently shared by 4 teams. Most surprisingly including MAD Lions. They've struggled ever since losing the Winter finals to G2, and with games left against both SK and G2, MAD could suddenly find themselves eliminated if they don't turn it around quickly. The other bottom teams seem to be on the better hand. Both Fnatic and Heretics finally found wins, they even went 2-1 this week. The momentum will be very important heading into the last week where a single game can and will make the difference. Lastly Excel is in a weird spot. They have certainly looked better than last (disastrous) split, but question is whether it'll be enough. They beat Fnatic and MAD, but their final opponents (KOI, AST and BDS) are all but free wins. Additionally, midlaner Vetheo has been benched and Abbedagge will be stepping in for the last regular season week. It'll be interesting to see how fast the German can integrate into the team and potentially turn the tide for XL.

The difference between the top and bottom of the standings is only 2 wins, so anything can still happen. It's going to be an exciting weekend for sure. Which 2 teams will see their split end prematurely? And who can claim the best positions going into the Bo3s?

‎‎ ‎ Day 1 Recap

🏁 Game One

Astralis had become one of the most exciting teams in the league since the addition of LIDER in the midlane. Against MAD Lions we saw another very aggressive dive comp from them consisting of Kled, Lee Sin, Akali, Kai'Sa and Rakan. The only way is forward. MAD responded with a more well-rounded comp, with most notably the Xayah that's more than fine kiting back.

Most of the early game was ruled by MAD's botlane. Hylissang had an immaculate performance on Rell, a champion we do not see very often but this year it has popped up several times as one of Hyli's pocket picks. The bot prio allowed Elyoya to stack up very quickly. Astralis' comp showed glimpses of its power, getting a couple good picks here and there. However, with the slight gold lead, MAD had no trouble winning the teamfights. Ultimately Astralis lacked the DPS later with Kobbe being way behind. MAD secured the Chemtech soul and a Baron around 25-26 min in and steadily closed out the game.

🏁 Game Two

Two teams at the bottom of the standings faced off. Heretics were looking for their first win of the split while Excel wanted to get a bigger grip on the top 8. Both teams drafted well-scaling teamfight compositions, so it would come down to execution. XL started off with a questionable Dragon call, upon which Heretics could collapse and run away with both first blood for Jackspektra and the objective. Still gold remained very close as both teams traded kills all over the map. Jankos continued his good form with another monster performance, ruling the early game. XL's combo of Sejuani, Yone and Nautilus gave them several good opportunities in return. The CC chains being insanely hard to play into.

It all appeared to come down to Soul point for Heretics around the 30 minute mark. The 5v5 that ensured initially looked great for XL, but Jackspektra's Zeri survived for way too long and Heretics came out victors, Infernal soul now in their pocket. Heretics' gold lead suddenly accelerated, but they played it slow. After 37 nerve-wracking minutes, Heretics fought their way into the enemy base towards their first victory in Spring.

🏁 Game Three

It's about time Fnatic gets some wins on the board, but BDS has not proven an easy opponent this split yet again. Fnatic put priority on the botlane, drafting the high-pressure lane of Caitlyn and Lux. BDS didn't really go along with the plan though. Labrov's Blitzcrank punished Advienne's reckless positioning at level 1, netting Crownie first blood and immediately heavily swinging the lane in BDS' favour. Fnatic's topside generated a lead for Oscarinin on Jayce, but they always had to play catch-up. Once the map opened up a bit, Labrov ran rampant. BDS had a field day picking off people with hooks followed up by Sheo's Vi.

At 20 minutes Fnatic arrived too late at the Baron, handing over the free objective alongside additional kills. BDS patiently sieged their way to an extended gold lead. Fnatic didn't even contest anymore at the second Baron. For the Infernal soul they tried, but walked into a river controlled by BDS once again. Still Humanoid started dealing some massive damage on Ryze, offering enough waveclear to hold on. A third Baron then. This time it came down to a flip, but BDS remained calm and secured it, which was the final blow to Fnatic, who were left behind 0-4.

🏁 Game Four

Both our 3-0 teams faced off to determine the sole 1st place team. The teams were immediately looking for blood, clashing 5v5 before minions had spawned. Only one kill went over to each side though. Just a while later Markoon tried diving the enemy botlane, but Vitality immediately responded with Perkz' teleport while Bo killed off Irellevant in the toplane. The botlane lead allowed Bo to secure the first 2 drakes for Vitality. SK didn't just roll over and die, got a couple more picks and saw the perfect opportunity to secure the third dragon. However, Bo went over the wall for a hero play and stole the dragon from under SK's nose, putting Vitality at an early soul-point.

Vitality didn't play a clean game by any means, but they had a slightly better execution. Another close fight gave them the space to secure the powerful Infernal soul at only 21 minutes. A few minutes later it was time for the Elder dragon and SK seemed to find a good angle, but Bo's smites were on point that day. The objective secured the close fight in Vitality's favour, who eventually destroyed the enemy nexus to claim first place in the standings.

🏁 Game Five

G2 vs KOI/Rogue always delivers. KOI drafted themselves a pick comp very similar to Astralis' comp earlier in the day, but with a Twisted Fate for extra setup and a safe Gnar in the toplane. The comp immediately showed its worth when KOI's topside secured first blood vs BrokenBlade. A gank attempt got turned around masterfully by the G2 botlane, netting Hans Sama 2 early kills on Ashe. It really wasn't KOI's lucky day as Caps escaped Malrang on a sliver of health, while the Korean ultimately fell himself to half G2's team rotating over. G2 tried pushing their botlane advantage to the fullest, but this time their aggression got punished and Comp recovered from their start with 2 kills in his pocket.

Meanwhile Szygenda was absolutely demolishing BB in the toplane. The Gnar had generated a massive 3k gold lead over his G2 counterpart at just around 15 min in. And that mostly by himself. The KOI toplaner really started to become a huge threat once he was let lose upon the map. His presence won KOI a 5v5 dragon fight and allowed them to look towards the Baron. Yike was alive though and wasn't planning on letting KOI have the objective for free. But once again Szygenda flash - ulted over the wall, stopping Yike from getting into the pit at the perfect timing. G2 was tenacious and even had a decent last stand, but KOI's gold leaded had spun out of control. And so KOI got some revenge for their playoffs loss at the hands of G2 with a very important win.

🏁 Game One

The game started with some level 1 shenanigans, and Astralis came out with an early first blood over to LIDER. They didn't plan on slowing down as 113 was very active in the early game, pulling off ganks in both botlane and toplane while stacking the first few drakes. BDS' top and jungle were able to generate small gold leads, but Astralis looked to be in a fantastic position with significant leads on their primary carries. Still BDS showed signs of life. The fight for the dragon soul went on for longer than it should have, as Adam got loads of work done on his Aatrox. A triple kill for the BDS toplaner, but the soul went over to Astralis. Still, BDS smelled blood in the water. A teamfight over the Baron became split up for the side of Astralis, and BDS made clever use of the chaos to secure the objective right from under their opponent's nose. The game went on and it looked to come down to the Elder dragon. Neither team found a decisive angle, but Crownie and nuc started to become huge threats on their hyperscaling Jinx and Cassiopeia. Astralis simply gave up on the objective. BDS played it very smart by delaying the Elder for as long as possible in order to have it in the ensuring Baron fight. Nothing Astralis could do to stop them. Heartbreaking loss for them after a great early game, while BDS got away with murder.

🏁 Game Two

Important game between 2 struggling teams. MAD's mid/jungle started off with an aggressive play onto Vetheo, but XL's jungle and support quickly rotated over to turn the play around in their favour. Roles were reversed when Xerxe died a little later due to Twisted Advance following a flashing enemy way too deep. (Author note: as a Maokai main, I feel his pain.) An early 5v5 for a Dragon ended in favour of XL, netting Patrik 2 kills on Xayah. The XL ADC would go on to step up massively for his team. Alongside Vetheo dealing massive damage on Jayce, XL had a good time teamfighting into MAD. Carzzy did his best, but LIMIT's Soraka and the Maokai made his job neigh impossible. Surely XL's gold lead grew. XL's mid to late game was also pretty crisp, deciding not to flip the Baron and play it clean. Odoamne and Vetheo held off MAD while the rest of the team secured the objective for free. MAD couldn't really get anything back except for a single pick, put in the end it didn't really matter as Patrik teared up the SAD Lions. Huge step up from XL and important victory.

🏁 Game Three

If there was any time for Fnatic to turn it around and start winning, against Heretics might be one of the best chances they got. They drafted themselves a strong mid-jungle-support core with great pick potential consisting of Vi, Taliyah and Nautilus, and we quickly saw it pay off. Rekkles and Advienne got a 2v2 kill just 3 minutes in, meanwhile the Fnatic topside collapsed onto Jankos. The chaos that ensured netted Fnatic a massive lead, gifting 3 kills over to Oscarinin on Jax.

The game looked pretty much doomed for Heretics, as Fnatic continued getting picks with their mid/jungle. Still Jankos had yet another impressive showing, clawing back some gold for Jackspektra in the meantime. The Heretics jungler even stole a Dragon to buy extra time. And while Fnatic secured an easy Baron, the extra time paid off. Ruby on Azir and Jack on Zeri started coming only, giving Heretics an actual fighting chance. The game went back and forth with Heretics winning a couple of fights, but Fnatic running away with the objectives. At already 40 minutes in, it looked like Fnatic had overstepped while sieging, but in their pursuit, Heretics walked into a trap. Clean ace for Fnatic secured them their oh so important first victory of Spring.

🏁 Game Four

In Winter regular season SK took down KOI. In Groups KOI returned the favour with a 2-0 victory. Once again the two teams balanced each other out. At this point we're almost used to seeing Exakick and Doss shine, and again they 2v2 killed their KOI counterparts, actually another very strong botlane. Not even 2 minutes later Comp already took a kill back onto Exakick. For the rest of the early-mid game picks were traded over in a messy game. On one hand Doss popping off on Thresh, on the other side Larssen putting up a clinic as Lissandra. At 20 minutes the gold was dead even. SK went for the Baron to try accelerate the game and got away with it by sacrificing Sertuss' life in exchange. Unfortunately for them, SK squandered their Baron buff through miscommunication and KOI was eager to punish. And more kills over to Comp's Kai'Sa. KOI really pushed their momentum and secured Baron and Mountain soul. SK couldn't find a proper response and the Spanish team closed out the game in a calm and collected fashion.

🏁 Game Five

Match of the week between what most assumed would be our top 2 teams for the split. Photon and Bo made BrokenBlade suffer during the laning phase, but G2 was left unfazed. Their top tier botlane got a 2v2 kill against Upset and Kaiser while Yike ran the map, getting several picks on his Vi. Impressive showing from the G2, but on the other side Bo did not have the best day, getting caught at several instances. Still gold remained more or less even. Perkz was scaling hard on Aurelion Sol, but it may have made Vitality overconfident.

After a drake fight where G2 secured their third drake of the game, Vitality was too eager to get something back but got split up. What ensured were more kills over to G2, with a free Baron to top it off. A bit later Vitality did secure the next drake, securing G2 the Cloud soul for now, but the Winter champions took that personally. They cut off Vitality's escape path with Caps' teleport and smashed the ensuring fight. Another Baron went their way and they could march towards the enemy base. In their attempts to get some bounty gold back, Photon overstayed while splitpushing and returned late to defend his base. G2 capitalised on the mistake and took down the enemy Nexus. Insane showing from Yike in particular, going deathless on Vi is especially impressive!

🏁 Game One

Both teams decided to channel their inner LCK spirit for the occasion. What ensured was a 30 minutes long snoozefest with only 6 kills for the entire duration. SK acquired first blood during a skirmish around Herald, then Exakick cashed in a lot of gold as Draven in a dragon fight. XL didn't show any proactive gameplay as SK slowly but steadily took over the map, sieged turrets and secured the objectives. SK just decided to walk into the enemy base, with a Baron and Mountain soul already in their pocket, got more kills in a single fight than in the rest of the entire game, and finished. Not a very exciting game for the average viewer, but a win is a win.

🏁 Game Two

Another Spanish derby. The deciding game to make or break Heretics' week. Drafts were not like you would've expected from these teams, with MAD opting into heavy scaling while Heretics went with a pick comp that relies more on execution. Lots of action in the topside from the get-go, with kills being traded. Jackspektra also picked up a kill in the botlane 2v2. A good teamfight from MAD at dragon and suddenly Nisqy was 3/0 on his signature Cassiopeia. Rough situation for Heretics to play into, as demonstrated at the next fight on the topside. But somehow Heretics turned it around and clawed their way back into the game.

Still no team was clearly in the lead and so the gamestate was pure chaos. Heretics eventually tried starting the Baron but were forced off it. MAD then tried to take down the objective for themselves, but Evi, Ruby and Mersa pulled off a 3v4 to annihilate MAD and definitively secured the Baron for Heretics. The gold lead swung clearly into their favour, but a Lion does not admit defeat that quickly. Elyoya had the quicker smite at the potential Mountain soul for Heretics, afterwards MAD even got away with a Baron. Heretics were able to defend and keep MAD occupied while Evi splitpushed into the enemy base. Yet it all came down to a final 5v5 teamfight at the 35 minute mark. A nerve-wracking sequence ultimately led to Jankos and Jackspektra being the sole survivors, and able to destroy the enemy nexus. A rollercoaster of a game, but Heretics will be very happy with their second win of the split.

🏁 Game Three

Can giant-slayers Astralis do it again? They were immediately off to a great start with their botlane styling on Vitality. Kobbe picked up a couple of early kills and Astralis' gold lead grew quickly. It also allowed them to secure the early dragons for free. Still Vitality's CC-heavy mid/jungle combo of Lissandra and Vi still allowed them to pick off the Astralis ADC at times. Astralis played well though, and with the hyperscaling Aurelion Sol in the midlane it only looked better for them. Still Photon got a lot of work done in the sidelanes on his Gwen.

Despite the gold deficit, Vitality found a miracle teamfight and clean aced Astralis on the back of Photon getting a quadrakill. Unfortunately for them, there were no objectives left on the map. Astralis got another shot to close the game out and this time their Viego did get the resets while LIDER's Aurelion Sol was left free to melt Vitality down. Astralis made the miracle work against another top team, and in convincing fashion.

🏁 Game Four

Coming into the matchup, BDS was actually above G2 in the standings. And with reason. Team BDS played a good early game, finding picks, getting drakes and creating a huge gold advantage for Crownie in the botlane. For over 20 minutes they were in control of the game. Then both teams danced around the fourth dragon, potential Ocean soul for BDS already. Neither side could find an opening for quite a while, so they just stared each other down. Until Adam found a good teleport flank, quickly taking Hans Sama out of the fight. Still it wasn't BDS' fight to take. G2 turned it around and came out the victors, delaying the soul in the process.

The momentum changed and doubt seeped into BDS' gameplay. G2 sneaked a Baron and barely got away with it. But the lead had well and truly turned around. A couple of teamfights where BDS barely could not finish off their kills, while G2 were more decisive. G2 didn't need more than an inch to take over the reigns of the game and steal away the victory. Heartbreaking loss for BDS who were the better team for the majority of the game.

🏁 Game Five

Another tough matchup for Fnatic, but at least they had shown improvement over the last couple of days. They even got a good start, with Razork turning a botlane 2v2 in their favour. From then on the entire game would be dictated by Fnatic's jungler. He hunted down Malrang in KOI's own jungle and solo killed him, followed by another succesful gank in the midlane. Meanwhile Oscarinin was having a rough time in the toplane against Szygenda, but who else but Razork to finally take down KOI's Gnar? 4/0 Vi before the 15 minute mark. Fnatic pushed their jungler's advantage to the maximum and won several objective fights on the back of it. It also became painfully obvious that KOI's comped lacked damage once Comp's Kalista was taken down. Fnatic ran away with the game and played it clean, KOI could not find any angle back into the game. If anyone had expected this game to be one-sided, they certainly wouldn't have tought it'd be Fnatic to do so. Massive performance from Razork, in a cathartic way after the criticism he has received the past few months. Fnatic still has sights on the top 8.

‎‎ ‎ Week 3 Preview

📺 Saturday - Games To Watch

Team Heretics vs Astralis Two scrappy teams ready to brawl it out - it may not be the cleanest league of legends, but this matchup will sure as hell be entertaining. Will Astralis take revenge for losing to Heretics in Winter?

Fnatic vs MAD Lions In 2021 summer this was the grand finals matchup, now both teams are at the bottom of the standings. Every win will be insanely valuable, especially against direct competitors. Also battle of the Spanish junglers Razork vs Elyoya and a chance for Hylissang and Nisqy to deny their old team a spot in the group stage.

SK Gaming vs G2 Esports In Winter SK only played G2 once - and won. Can they beat them again now they've proven to be a mainstay at the (sub)top of the LEC? Or will G2 display utter destruction after the shakier last 2 weeks?

📺 Sunday - Games To Watch

EXCEL vs Astralis Now with Abbedagge stepping in for XL for the weekend, both teams have added a new midlaner to their starting lineup. For XL especially it's do or die in order to get a better result than last split. Or will Finn deny his old team once again?

KOI vs Team BDS Middle of the table clash, both teams have shown pretty good gameplay last week. This matchup could prove important in seeding for the group stage. Also an interesting toplane matchup between Adam and Szygenda who has looked on fire this split so far.

G2 Esports vs Fnatic El Classico, G2 vs Fnatic. No words can describe the history between these two teams. Once going toe to toe at the top of the LEC, Fnatic now slumping and scraping together the necessary wins to make top 8. G2 are more than willing to deny those hopes. Or can Fnatic show some magic of old?

📺 Monday - Games To Watch

Team BDS vs EXCEL Most likely another very important game in the conclusion to the fight for top 8. Last split XL's only victory was against Team BDS, but the Swiss org is desperate to not let that happen again.

KOI vs Team Vitality KOI seems to have a knack for defeating the top teams, having taken down SK and G2 back to back. Can they do the same to Vitality who want to bounce back after a 1-2 week? Shout-out to the botlane matchup between 2 of Europe's finest ADC players, Comp and Upset.

MAD Lions vs G2 Esports A repeat of the Winter finals to close out the regular season. If MAD doesn't step up massively during the first 2 days, their group stage chances might all come down to this game. Last time it did not go so well, but with more time to prepare for their strong opponent, maybe they can have vengeance after all.

‎‎ ‎ Conclusion

That wraps up this week's article, thanks for reading! Make sure to not miss any LEC games this weekend as we head into the final week of regular season. Every game counts and can make a massive difference in both who makes top 8 and the seeding going into the Group stage. Happy watching!

Remember that there's still a few more hours to update your Captain or use up your sell tokens if you think that a player you have is going to be putting your fantasy team at risk. If one of the top point earners is in your team, consider making them your captain this week!
