Oh. I think it depends on how long the whole signature is. I think the limit is 50 lines of code, total. Don't quote me on this though.

There isn't any limitation that anyone should be hitting (there is a text size limitation in the database but it's quite high). The only reason I would have to implement one is if people's signatures get out of control and it starts bogging down page load times.
