I would downvote this build, except that the reasons for which I would justify that downvote can be applied to nearly every build on a support champion on this site.

Your role as a support character is to support your team, and during the laning phase, your lane partner in particular. While laning, a good support will be placing wards, poking at enemy champions with auto attacks (and hymn of valour), and in Sona's case, healing when possible, as well as keeping track of enemy movements.

What you should not be doing is last hitting. If you do, you are taking gold that would otherwise be going to your carry. Your role is to help your team's carry get last hit on as close to 100% of the minions as possible. A good target is 100 CS on your carry by 12 mins. You won't always get this, but if they've got less than 80 at 12 mins then something is terribly wrong.

So what does this mean for our item build? For a start, all those items are pretty expensive. If we were taking sona in mid lane, and building her as an AP carry, an archangels would be a great item, but we're not. We are playing her in a support role.

So what should we build? Items that give gold per 5: Philosopher's stone is a great one, as are the item it builds into. This should give you all the mana and health regen you need in the early game, as well as the money to afford all those wards you should be buying.

What about teamfights? "How do I kill people?" I hear you ask. That's not your job.
Any gold that you have managed to not take in the form of kills and last hits, should have gone to another summoner on your team - hopefully one of your carries (you should be laning with a ranged ad carry unless you have a very good reason to be laning with another champion.) With all that extra gold that you have kindly helped them get, they should have a huge advantage over the enemy carry, and will cut them to pieces.

So what do you do in teamfights if not kill people? Simple, use your stun at the right moment - to catch people out of position or to save an ally etc. stay at the back just in front of your ranged carry where you are safe, and spam your auras, - especially your heals, as much as possible. Landing power chords and hymn of valour is cool if you can do it safely, but damage is not really your job. Keeping your allies alive is.

Another small note, while laning, because you don't have to think about last hitting, you have more attention to devote to watching the minimap. Try and keep track of where all 10 champions are as much as possible. ALL TEN??? yes! That way, you'll know if someone is coming to gank your lane, or another lane, and you can warn your allies in time. If a fight is starting near your lane, you'll be there with your carry as soon as possible. If you see their jungler at the top of the map, you can push towers or press forward for kills without worrying about a gank.

How do you keep track of their jungler though? Clairvoyance is your friend. With it you are helping your entire team know what is happening on the map, and make better decisions on how to play. Try to predict their jungler and CV where you think he'll be at different times. You'll begin to know when to expect ganks, and when your allies are going to be in trouble, before it even happens.

Much more useful than teleport - if you go to another lane your carry will likely be left 1v2 for a minute or two, and could fall behind a lot on gold, or even lose a tower. Make sure it's worth it to go help another lane (sometimes it is)

All this time spent watching the minimap, you should be calling ss for other lanes out of habit. Sometimes your allies may forget, and you could save a life!

So if you're not supposed to be dealing damage, what about runes and masteries? Well for a start, You don't need all that AP or magic penetration. That's for an ap carry! You won't have much damage, so mpen isn't that valuable, instead:

gold per 5 on quints can help you get those early cooldown boots and philosopher's stone as soon as possible.

Blues: Cooldown reduction is a solid choice on blues, so is mana per 5.

Yellows: Mana per 5 or armour, your call!

Reds: Armour or magic resist are both good choices.

Learn to be a real support, and you will bring something far more valuable to your team as you get into higher level gameplay.

ALWAYS get Ionian boots on Sona. You have your E. Why need boots of swiftness??
Also, snowball items are usually a pretty bad idea. If you want more dmg, get a Sheen/Lich Bane.

No vote from me sir.

Your build seems quite interesting as I've been considering using Guardian Angel myself too, but I decided not to as Sona is not a tank.

Many people don't understand that AP is vital to Sona, but you seem to realize that :) Many think that building AP automatically means AP carry, but Sona has rly low base heal. I don't quite understand why you pick those boots, because Song of Celerity together with those masteries provides pretty good base speed. I myself prefer CDR boots.

I think I should try this build, but I'm quite fixated on using my own which concentrates on the synergy between Archangel's Staff and survival items that provide mana. If you want, you can check my build too :)

BTW, AP Sona works well if not focused: I owned last game with 40% CDR and 700AP, I healed 400-500 every 4 seconds and we had only DPS in team. Karthus was our tank, lol :D Won with 9-2-2x score.

(I'll come back to vote when I've tried this build.)
