The only thing i'm really sad about the new patcher is that custom skins and such will be a bigger hassle to install now. I'm gonna have to figure out what program(s) to get in order to open/modify the .raf and .dat archive files.

The new patcher's main point is to allow you to run previous versions of the game and thus enabling replays :D
