You know Searz - without mercs you will be kited to death aswell if not during then after the fight.
Mercs is just a real must on any tanky melee DPS - Period.
And the CC I am refering to is stuff like Amumu, Sona, Galio, Leona and such peoples AoE ults.
So ofc if they cant kite you, have no AoE CC - Then Ionian is probably better :)

Actually the 10% from Brutalizer+any you might get from runes/masteries is plenty enough to keep your abilities up.
