It's probably the best choice, but it really depends on the enemy team comp. Most of the time I'll probably get it :)
Btw, pantheon has been added to my short list of "op" champions I have raped as renekton. The list is now pantheon, jax, and mordekaiser(though that morde was pretty bad...)

A smart Mordekaiser and Renekton can't kill each other in lane, since both need a lot of space to kill the other.
If they just straight up battle, whoever is closer to the other guy's minions will probably win.
In a team fight, both full build, Mordekaiser would either get raped, or would kill Renekton.
I would build Lich Bane+DFG against a Renekton, probably grab a GA, then build mass AP, Deathcap+Gunblade. (Read: The thing i buy vs. 90% of Morde vs. Matchups.)
Renek is an extremely strong solo top though, and he's great in team fights.
