GET ARMOR QUINTS. By far the best choice on Amumu.
Here's what I usually do:
Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
1/12/17 masteries. (MUCH better than 1/14/15)
I usually start with Regrowth because that way you save a LOT of money by getting an early Philo stone, you'll also have an easier time sustaining yourself in the jungle (YOU DON'T NEED POTS AND CAN MANAGE WITHOUT BLUE, WOOOO!).
I'm running one of these 2 paths:

- (NEEDS a leash) Blue->wolves(you might be able to take wolves->blue) ->Wraiths->Golems->B and pick up philo+ a pot or 2 and maybe a ward->Red(if ganking, otherwise just keep jungling)
- Wolves/Wraiths->Wolves/Wraiths (difference being that Wraith start is slower, but higher HP)->Golems->B (PHIIILOOOOO)->Wolves/Blue->Wolves/Blue->Wraiths->Red/Golems->Red/Golems

Ummmmmm thanks! I might need an explicit breakdown of your masteries... Mine for 1-12-17 are 1(duh)- 12(armor, MR, HP reg(dodge messes up your e), 2 physical damage block)- 17(exp buff, reduced death time, perseverence1/3, greed, 1/3 mana reg, buff duration increase 2/2, ms speed buff 3/3, flash cooldown reduction, 1/3 cdr. And I am pretty consistently getting around 4:30. Not as fast as someone like singed or nocturne, but is that fine? Is there anything I should work on my time?

Which path do you get that time with?

I go the tradtional amumu route- blue buff- wolves- wraiths- golem- b- buy boots, ward, 1x hp pot- grab red buff(jungle clear)- start ganking.
I said it before in the OP.
I have one MS quint and two armor quints atm. I'm safe enough, but I like a little more speed. So I might just keep it at that.... quints are expensive, man... I WANT GRAGAS WHILE I'M STILL YOUNG!!!!

Well, with those masteries and armor quints you'll be both more durable AND have almost the same MS(compared to MS quints+1/14/15).
Counter jungling isn't that bad. Amumu handles it better than Nocturne, lawl.
I recommend skipping the MS quints. While good, they're just rarely really good. You can use HP or HP5 quints with 21 utility on Singed and get great results. I own 3MS quints, but I'm still going utility+HP/HP5 quints.
And; pfft, I can do the aggressive (the one you call "traditional") path in 03:40. How bad are you really? :P
