hmmmm with clarity mekis start is abit odd and i don't like the idea of soul stealer makes karthus feel really kill stealish
did you even read both builds or anything in the guide? cuz if you did it explains both clarity and why your NOT supposed to steal kills.. thanks for the troll vote
There are some great flaws in this build for me. So I downvote until the author explains me advantages of his decisions (I haven't found any explanations in the build) OR until he changes the build.
1/ Why to pick Clarity AND Archangel's Staff? I also use the Clarity but I do that (among others) to avoid Archangel's Staff. Build Archangel's Staff while you're using the Clarity is wasting of potential in my opinion. Overmore, the Archangel's Staff gives quite low AP (if you have just one) and you don't need the mana bonus with Clarity and Defile's passive.
2/ Why not to pick Flash? The author writes that the sense of this spell is just to get out of gank but it's usage could be much wider. You can use it to better positioning in teamfights OR for some offensive purposes (e.g. if your enemy flashes-out, you can prevent it by flashing-in; or just use it for chasing).
3/ If you already have Archangel's Staff AND Clarity, why to start with Meki Pendant? You should have so much mana that you just can't spend it (I've tried it).
4/ I respect people who plays Karthus with Mejai (although I don't play that) but it has no sense in case that you spend almost whole your potential for secure your mana-resources. It's very hard to get some kills by this way.
1) Clarity is used for early game harrass until you get the AA, because since you play karthus, you should know that if you harass enough you will go OOM very fast. And if you actually read my guide i explain that defile is not a good source of mana regen.
2) i said in the guide that flash is a suitable spell, its just not the one i use...
3) this makes no sense, you cant get AA without a meki penant....
4) the build with mejais is a glass cannon build, if you didnt notice i have 2 builds up there...
only 1 of 4 things you said made any sense and really that doesnt deserve a down vote...

I also main Karthus, and what that guy said before in the first comment isn't 100 percent true! Karthus is one of those champions who really doesn't excel in the beginning exactly. Around level 6-7 is where your gonna start getting powerful enough to really take on people head to head. THATS when the AP per level runes come into effect quite nicely. In the beginning I use flap AP quints, that scales my AP up to 18 with my seals/glyphs being ap per level. 18 is great for a starting AP, especially as it increases in level. The AP per level Quints are something I've been wanting to try for a long time, so I will say your rune page is setup quite nicely contrary to other's beliefs. Your Masteries are decent too, but I am a firm 21/0/9 Karthus believer. I've played him for years so trust me, I've tried everything. 21/0/9 just flows smoother for me. Not sayin it will for everyone. Mejai's is something I gotta disagree on, though. But the rest of your items scale nicely. Good work :) Keep on playing the best AP char evar
thanks alot good sir :D wheres the +1 :p and ya alot of people dont like mejai's, its just a personal item i like to use, only when im doing good mind you
Its kinda complicated but there is a good thread on this site about it
The black cleaver offers armour reduction, While the marks in runes are armour penetration,
ARmour reduction goes BEFORE armour penetration. The black cleacer removes 45 armour. THen the penetration counts after that. so if the enemy has less armour/mr than your reducion yes he can go below 0.
Nice sorry i havent checked for a while, but if forgot i commented this lol :) like the section and what i meant about enemy section is who that is hard to lane against/easy to lange against.
Like leblanc/kass could own you because of silence etc.
Like the guide and the item choices mostly.
But you do NOT need abyssal scepter, sorceres shoes mpen marks AND void staff.
Because mr works this way. First comes Mr reduction(abyssal scepter) then normal mpen(boots, marks) then comes Percentage reduction(nothing) then percentage penetration(void staff) meaning that the more mpen/mred you have the worse void staff will work.
Now lets say an ashe with 30 mres. Sorceres shoes + marks = 29 and abyssal = 20. first abyssal will take away 20. leaving 10 left. then the 29 mpen will take away the 10. and then you have 19 wasted mpen. And void staff is useless.
But if she has a banshees(wich is usually all an ashe will get) she will have 80. Wich means that abyssal will take away 20 leaving 60 mpen will take away 29 leaving 31. and your void staff will take away.. about 12,8(13) wich is kinda low for that price.. and she will have about 18 mres left.
If you do not have abyssal it becomes. 80 - 29 = 51 -40% = Ca 30. so that means the void staff helps but there are diminished returns. if you had mercury treads it would be 80-9= 71-40%=42 ca. So still worse but diminished returns. in the end you waste about 16 mpen if you get shoes, marks and abyssal. you could drop boots for mercury as they increase your surviveability by alot.
Or drop void staff since squishies are main target anyway. sorry for this long wall of text tho.. but the less mr they have the less usefull void staff + abyssal + marks + shoes become.
Buuuuut other than that great guide +1
you are 100% right about the void staff. but cant you go negative with MR like you can with armor? For example, your playing ashe and you buy a Black Cleaver, and you shred 45 armor but the person only has 35, they go -10 on armor thus making you deal more damage. and when i play soraka with star call i've made minions go negative MR. so wouldn't you end up dealing more damage?
and ohh ok, i was confused about the section, ya ill be sure to put up a section on hard to lane against champions. thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I'm not really a fan of clarity on Karthus (since defile gives you mana back for kills), but other than that your guide is pretty good.
ya i here you, but i just dont find defile as a viable mana regen, you only get it when you kill something, and that doesnt help when it comes to harrasing. its just a personal thing tho
