If anyone's still curious, they released a video explaining how the PVP will work. Looks like it's just death match, I didn't catch anything about other game modes. You take three characters in with you and can swap them out as long as you're not otherwise incapacitated.

also idk if i'll be getting it. while yes spore isn't exactly what will wright wanted it to be (ea/maxis screwed him over) it was still a game.
