He doesn't like the system, so there's no reason to make him part of it. Doesn't make the rest of his actions any less useful/valuable btw, that's not what I meant to say.

I agree, I think he just worded it incorrectly.

What I would have said was, "Since he didn't want it, it would be illogical to give it to him."

Deserving something implies that the something to be deserved is desired or desirable.
