Hi all, advice needed for ranged AD carry runes.

Just started getting into ranked games (13xx elo -- can't seem to get outta the elo where auto-locking trolls run rampant), and I love playing ranged carries like Vayne, Trist, Graves, etc.

My current rune page for ranged AD carries is 25 ArP (full reds & quints), 13 armor (flat yellows), and 13 MR (flat blues). Is this the way ranged AD carries usually run runes?

I've looked up (stalked) the profiles of some high-elo players who are known to play ranged AD carries (Doublelift, Chaox, others), and I see that instead of ArP reds & quints, they grab flat physical damage reds & quints, resulting in 15 physical damage (and 0 ArP). Or, they'll run ArP reds and lifesteal quints (6% total lifesteal).

Is this because of the new masteries, which give 6 flat ArP and 10% ArP (and 3% lifesteal)? Are ArP runes no longer necessary/outweighed by physical damage runes? (i.e. do damage runes help you dominate early game, or..?)

(I'm not looking to blindly follow high-elo players, I just want to understand the reasoning behind these rune choices and adjust accordingly to improve my gameplay.)

**
So, anybody who gets it and cares to explain, please do. And I'm curious as to what everybody else runs on their ranged AD carries -- rune choices and explanations would be awesome! Thanks.

flat AD runes are mainly used to improve your early game, making it easier to last hit and making you stronger in duels/damage trading. Armor penetration runes scale better into late game.
Though because the early game is very important on many AD carries, people will often choose to go for flat AD. A few champions (Tristana, Ezreal come to mind) are usually better off with both AD marks AND quints, while others will usually prefer to pick up armor penetration marks (since its common now to use armor seals as AD carry) and flat AD quints.

I rarely play AD since I figured that I'm best mid but when I do, I take ArP Marks, Armor Seals, CD/AS/MR glyphs and HP/ArP Quints. ArP for extra damage, armor since you're laning against AD carry, glyphs depend on champion on enemy and Quints aswell.

Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure.

I do the same, except I take 4 flat MR and 5 scaling MR just because that's how i like to do things. I find it gives me a very nice balance.

Thanks to The Nameless Bard and Vavena for the sigs!

Don't do this because then you will be sheep following Chaox, and NOBODY wants to be sheep. ;p

I use Armor Pen Reds/quints with AD yellows and AD+Mana regen/level blues, however many I need to get by mana wise. I find that my AD heroes such as Caitlyn are extremely mana starved, especially since I buy no +mana items. Being able to throw those AoEs out there like Pilt shot more often have helped me far more than a tiny bit of extra AD would have. I use blue for the mana regen because yellow has a higher AD on it. I don't know if my dps would be higher or lower if I just used the better color for better mana regen so I could have fewer runes... or just piling more of them up on the worse color. Yellow does both better so I don't see a value difference here. It's either less of the better rune or more of the lesser rune in order to meet my needs. I just went with blue because blue is the color of mana anyway. I have 7 of them and that almost feels like enough. I'll likely stop at 8.

But as far as far as I know, armor pen > Attack damage for red/quint. I can't really comment on the lifesteal runes because if I had 6k ip to spend... I'd spend it on a new hero, not a mere 3 runes.
