|
After observing and playing a sizable amount of junglers, I've decided to make a tier list that i think most suits the current state of the game. I've borrowed some ideas from stonewall008, one of my favorite players in the game. I'll explain my tiers and some of my choices, as this is my first list.
Tier explanations-
God Tier- Reserved for junglers that are simply the best you can play in the game right now, and stand head and shoulders above the competition. They've got it all; sustain, damage, ganks, utility, speed.
Tier 1- These are junglers that are very, very good. They each bring unique and valuable qualities to their team, and stand as very good choices in the current meta.
Tier 2- This tier includes many junglers that can be good, but may be lacking in certain crucial areas. Let nothing stop you from picking them, they're all good, but they're just not the best.In a grade: B
Tier 3- These junglers are either outclassed or severely lacking in some areas. They can't keep up or perform as well as some others in the same role.
Tier 4- This tier is for junglers that don't bring anything special to a team, someone else does their job far better, or have to really alter their builds to jungle effectively.
Eve Tier- You're **** for still playing her and you will not do well.In a grade: F. You fail.
(No
Sejuani? I honestly haven't seen enough of her to form an opinion.)
Let's talk first about the big 4(And this is going to be a lot of what I talk about this time).
Trundle,
Udyr,
Skarner, and
Lee Sin. They are the best junglers in the game. But when choosing who to put on the god tier, I was faced with a tough decision. Skarner was easy to put at the top. Being good with him is EFFORTLESS. Oh my god, he's so strong right now you have no idea. Fast as ****ing LIGHTING, GODLY ganks, nuts late game and a terribly strong presence in the jungle. Skarner, #1, hands down.
Lee sin is just simply too good to take out of the god tier, he's got so much damage and his ganks are simply nuts, his mobiltiy is excellent, he can keep up with anyone in terms of speed, and late game he'll easily stack 3k hp and a **** ton of damage and tank, not to mention his ult, which is always good. I feel Lee Sin, when played right, has the best ganks in the game.
That leaves Udyr and Trundle. Both are fast(Udyr is faster), both have great ganks(Trundle's are better), both have an awesome late game, and both murder anyone who steps in their jungle. Okay, good. Tough choice. Phoenix Udyr outfarms Trundle without too much trouble, it's like a Trundle with aoe. Trundle has the better late game, However. Udyr has a semi-weak super late game, and is simply outclassed in damage after a certain point. Udyr is fast, he has a very powerful damage output that's tough to counter(he deals a significant mix of magic and physical damage early on) However. What does Trundle have that could make him better than Udyr?
Pillar of Filth. One of the best abilities in the game, all game, erryday. Mobility in a teamfight that's simply better than Udyr's. Awesome damage throughout the game. A Tank-Shredding ultimate. But what really made me think to put Trundle above Udyr is his ganks. Trundle simply has outstanding ganks, and can trap people easily with his e. DAT E is so powerful and dynamic, it just nudges him over udyr imo. A 1 second stun < giant ****ing displacing / trapping pillar that slows you
Now let's talk about some other junglers.
Maokai- This guy! He's got pretty fast clears, early ganks that dish out cc like nothing you've ever seen, and a pretty damn solid late game. Top choice.
Nocturne- Noc, I think, is still one of the best junglers in the game, but unfortunately he's living in the shadows lately. I think he's soooo good. Just plain STUPID ganks that come out of nowhere, he's super fast, he's well sustained, and I think the new jungle fits him like a glove.
Amumu- Probably my favorite choice for a jungler. He farms like a total BAWS now, his ganks are still friggin top notch, and counter jungling him isn't as effective as it used to, it really isn't. Unless you're stealing his buffs early game, he's going to have not much trouble keeping himself sustained.
Cho'Gath- Cho'Gath is just ridiculously good now, weaker creeps means his aoe KILLS it throughout the game, and he'll be seriously farmed. Cho'Gath can fit whatever roles you want, he could be bruiser, tank, ap tank, whatever you want him to be!
Shaco- These bug fixes have made him a real pain in the ***, I tell you what. My greatest fear is a good shaco, because a good shaco will be in your jungle, waiting to murder you in creative and humiliating ways.
Gangplank- Gangplank is still a really awesome pick, and super fun character to play. His ganks are pretty damn good, his farm is nice, and I think he's a good choice; there are simply some things he doesn't do the best. He's not the fastest farmer, he's not the best ganker, he's not the most sustained. But he makes up for it with a STUPID good late game, so GP is still damn good.

Now let's talk about some other junglers.

You can compare Karthus's early levels to an Udyr, Skarner, Nocturne, or any other offensive jungler.
If you put em on a faceoff, Karthus will lose 100%.
By early invasions / counterjungling I mean by literal level one or two counterjungles.
as for counter jungle, I have never had issues with it. If you want to track me down through my jungle then be my guest. q is a very big constant sustain damage early on. if you have blue then your e skill can stay on and melt whoever is chasing you through the jungle. and the beuaty of having an ap caster jungle is he can fill in on any lane and hold it for someone without much trouble at all. Addiontaly if you are forced into lane by an enemy (happened once cause my solo top sucked it was not by being countered) you can easily soak up some lvl and cs then move back to jungle and ganks when its all clear. I feel like his lane/jungle/gank transition is very good compared to standard ad autoattacking jugnlers.
What weaknesses does he have to counter-jungling that other junglers don't?
He doesn't fit the current meta for junglers either.
The current jungler meta is about mobility and aggression.
So Karthus doesn't get messed with that bad, it's really not a huge sin. SO I think Jungle Karthus will make a comeback of sorts, as he's the only viable option for a jungling AP carry. This new jungle is PERFECT for the aoe king, and I think in certain team comps we'll see him around more :3
The cdr and mana is nice, and it'll make you harder to kill by dps carries.
HUGE slow
NUTS aoe damage
Free ****ing farm
FAST. FAST. FAST.
Well sustained on mana.
So I think jungle karthus is viable, at the least. It DOES mess with his build a bit, but i think it's pretty worth it!
Want an AP carry in the jungle? Realize that fiddlesticks is **** now? KARTHUS: The new Fiddlesticks.
Shyv will be moved higher than Master Yi, thank you for catching that. Good point and +rep.
