I would suggest not playing support champs (Sona, Soraka, etc.) because if you end up with a bad team there is absolutely nothing you can do and it is very frustrating. While a support can make a good team great, and a great team amazing, it can do nothing for a bad team.
I hit level 30 and played Mundo as my main for the next 2-300 games, eventually learning GP (Pre rework)

I also as a result eventually switched over to 3v3 games, and quickly found myself amongst the best 3v3 players in the world when they did their normals.
Give dominion and 3v3 maps a spin while you find your bearings, maybe the different kinds of maps will have different meta games that you enjoy more.

ALL HAIL QUEEN CHRYSALIS!
the problem with normals is that if you are the jungler/support/or tank then its your fault for a loss, even though karthus fed annie 5 kills in the first 10 minutes.
just play a 5man premade, a lot better. check the mobafire in game room, theres usually a few people willing to play.

I don't get a lot of games in, as I've got kids and other hobbies, so I can't afford to spend all day playing LoL, but I feel I've got a solid grip on the game.
But, as with anybody else, winning is more fun than losing, and frankly I'm sick and tired of losing because top lane let Trynd get 200 cs and 4 kills before laning is over, and he just knocks over our towers and takes the game. It's not cool, it's not fun, it's not impressive.
I'm sticking to champions with solid CC and support, like Maokai, Taric, Cho'gath, Soraka, etc. I'm wondering though, when you solo que, if your goal is not exactly to make the biggest impact on the game, but to MITIGATE the chances of getting steam rolled, what "role" do you fill? I know I'm going to get screwed every once in a while, and these ARE normals so people are sometimes picking champions they don't know so they can learn them. I'm just curious what your thoughts are, so I can make this more fun for everybody I play with. Thanks.
