The front page has a list of the top voted builds in the past 30 days. While this is a good idea on the surface, all it serves is to draw attention to good builds that need to be seen by the community. But my argument is, if a person is truly in need of a build for that character, would they not take the time to just go over to the champion browse and find it themselves?

All that this function is doing is attracting publicity to builds that have likely already gotten dozens of votes and are close to the top, if not at the top already. Consider the numerous other builds that may be decent or are very good, but just haven't gotten the attention that they need and will never get it because the top voted builds will remain the top voted builds for the next month.

When people see a highly voted build, the majority of them follow the public consensus and also vote it up, creating a snowballing effect that is impossible to stop. This leads to possibly higher scores than deserved on the "front page builds" and not enough attention on the less obligatory viewing.

My suggestion is this: Instead of a "top builds" section on the front page, add a "Veteran Recommendation" section, where the veterans of this site pick maybe 8-10 builds to feature on the front page for variable amounts of time, whether it is a week or a month, or some other length. In any case, this would not only bring more activity to our already active veterans, but would also allow for the builds that experienced players think are good to truly shine on top, not builds dragged further and further up by the consensus of the community.

Some of you may fear that this would lead Mobafire to become a more anachronistic community, ruled only by the veteran members. But this isn't so; typically, at least 85% of the builds on the front page deserve to be there, and more often than not have veteran recommendations. The advantage that my proposed method has over the top rated builds is to reverse the order - let veterans suggest builds, then have the community decide on them. This gives more attention to possibly lesser-known builds and also prevents the same builds from rolling up vote after vote for a straight month.

Thoughts on this? Suggestions?

I think that some might think that favoritism might become of Vet Recommendations.

Vets are every, or I am anyway, and I keep getting Skype adds for crafting sessions lol. That aside, I keep seeing great guides and when they get praise, it makes them do much better on each build they put out. Mintberry Crunch is one such user.

Its a good idea, and it circulates the builds. I can see the pros for it, and Im must say it s a great idea, but Im sure that someone would QQ. Hmmmmm. Lets keep this rolling. Im sure we can get somethign out of it.

Maybe make the Top Builds last only for 2 weeks or something. There are some guides that have hundreds of comments, and even though they are at the top, there should be some new builds out there. Maybe some Honorable Mentions? Or most creative?

A bit off-topic but what's with the legendary builds for each month? It hasn't been updated in ages.

But yeah I'm up for anything, maybe trial run this or something, see how it goes!

Yeah, you're right, rotating the top builds more often would allow for more variety and would leave the good builds up there long enough so that they get attention, but not more than needed.

And I agree with the point about the legendary builds, they haven't been updated in a while... :P

Congrats on 1000 posts, Chaotic!

Broken at the moment. Will be fixed in the future. It is a system they would like to keep, and use :)
