Great guide, really taught me how to play Veigar, unfortunately, he's the only champion I'm any good as now.
Seriously great guide.
Thanks for the ups, man.
I was playing a game as veigar when I found an interesting trick, basically you let the enemy champ press you back to your tower and then when their minions are almost all dead you drop your stun and laugh maniacally as the get raped by your combo and the turret. This only really works low levels though.
Also are there any champs that are similar to Veigar because right now he is the only champ I am good at?
Personally, I'd recommend Annie. I've played her a bit lately and she's a whole lot like Veig, with the added advantage of having MUCH easier last-hitting and 3 different ways to stun. Her damage is immense and if you can use her well she's downright terrifying.

Seriously great guide.
I was compelled to make an account and comment on your guide after reading it and applying.
The ideas presented are simply the best way to handle Veigar. I've seen Veis who don't farm Q or spend W on CS early game and find themselves overwhelmed by my Vei—not that spending W on CS is bad or you mentioned farming with W early game, but you invite enemy Vei to drop E on you and have his way since he knows all you can do is R+Q.
However, after reading the guide, I have found myself in sticky situations—namely against Vei's counters. Generally they don't afraid ever and push so hard Q farm is denied. So, I propose a theory—given this situation, perhaps you may need to drop Q farm for Q harass until you can instill "The Fear" in them.
("The Fear" is when you burst them for 90-100% of their health and they back off for the rest of the game.)
I haven't tested this idea yet—haven't played Vei against a counter in a few games since I thought of it—but, on paper, it sounds like it could work. Perhaps it is obvious?
Now, the counters section. I generally play passively until level ~10 or a mid gank but I find Oriana to be an excellent counter to Vei—I mention my playstyle because it could have an effect on her giving me a rough time. In the game I played, she denied Q farm by putting me to 10% health before level 6. Even when I wised up it was slightly difficult to still bait her harass. I just figure I would throw that one out there.
Otherwise, your counter section is spot on.
In terms of starting items, I personally go for Meki + no pots. I imagine it is silly and unorthodox but it makes rushing DFG a lot easier. Starting with Doran's would put me behind 475(?) gold towards DFG, whereas Meki + no pots puts me 390 gold closer to DFG. Against Vei's who start with anything but Meki + no pots I wind up with DFG and a kill from them sooner than they can against me. This transfers over to vs other mid champs well because that quicker DFG takes them from 100% to 0% and instills that "Fear" I mentioned. Just another idea to throw out there.
If I knew how to +1, I would. I will find out how for you Freestyle. Great work.
Thanks a lot, I ended up doing the same thing when I first made an account.
I don't play Veigar often, seeing as I tend to play champs in rotations. Right now I've been digging the **** out of Galio and Ryze (BLASPHEMY!) but I definitely wanna get back to Veigar soon. He's just too fun.
The problem with Q harass is that Veigar just plain gets **** on early game. He's the definition of a late game champ and, a lot like Nasus, I tend to see using the farm skill to harass as a waste of potential farming power. I play a really, really, really passive early Veigar, and unless they're trying to dive the **** out of me I don't like fighting back because it wastes mana and unless it scores a kill, they'll likely just recall while you're waiting on cooldowns.
That said, I agree that sometimes you need to make people back off. I don't do it, mostly because I'm not great at it and I'm very focused on farming, but I think it's definitely something to be aware of as an option.
As for the items, I started revamping the guide a while ago and haven't gotten around to finishing it. One of the criticisms I've heard is that I put too much info into that part, so I'm definitely gonna go back and look into it in the future.
Thanks for all the feedback, it's comments like this that I really enjoy reading, whether they're agreeing or disagreeing.
