I'm not complaining, I hate that guy, I just find it odd that no one plays him now :o
Dat e nerf.
Also, Mordekaiser es best mid champion, anyone who can't farm well under tower does bad vs him.
Tri lane for life.
Malz is kind of bad in mid pre-6, IMO. All he does is push all day, and his only harass is his sustain. So it's either push and sustain, with no way of defending from a gank, or use up all your mana on harass.
Really strong mids right now are Morgana, Ahri, Kennen, Cass and Ziggs if you don't spam your ****.
But Galio and Kassadin are hard counters to most of these.
There isn't really a best champion for a lane, just learn to counterpick and you'll have an easy time.

Anyone doing bad undertower farm or cant push or does'nt have good sustained harass (here his passive is almost huseless). Not a lot of champ in fact :D
Cassio is a really strong mid champ, can performs well even if "countered". She loves laning phase and is not bad at ganking/teamfight.
I also love karthus, he could towerhug all day and may lose his lane but will be a monster in late game. Also helps a lot others lanes, even if not moving from his own lane : get assist in successful gank, finish low hp enemies ... Check brush with Q and W, Op wall, strong dps in aoe and not bad in monotarget.
Against not organized team or if you play in soloQ, you're the boss :D.
Anivia is a strong pick, depends a lot of your "skill", as a bad laning can happen and a wrong wall in TF make you lose the fight ;D
U could also give a try to Vlad
Overall, I guess you should start with a champ that can recover from a bad laning phase. Eryone with strong utility or high base-dmg spells : if you fail you're not a useless champ for your team.
Dont try to first pick the AP (or top ofc), trying to learn a champ that is counterpicked is not funny. At all.
English is not my native langage, I'm sorry about how painful to read my text are :c
Im working on a counter pick guide atm, you should check it out for better understanding of which mid laner you should play :) (Link in my signature)
PS. it's not 100% complete, so please send me a message about non filled spots if you got some valid information.

Finally finished my AP rune page, don't play mid lane as much as other roles, but I wanna start doing it more. I find that when I do well mid, I can put pretty good pressure on other lanes, and I just seem to have a good win rate when I go mid.
Anyway, curious who you guys think are the best choices at the moment for mid lane? Any "broken" champs that you think can be exploited before nerf bat? Or just generally strong champs?
I did play as Xerath a few games recently - seems like he could be really strong if used to full potential with his range. The other champs I've played mid frequently are Veigar, Swain, and AP Nidalee.
I don't seem to play well as Malz, tried him when I was starting out. Otherwise, open to all suggestions! Heard interesting things about Cassiopeia.
