Dear League of Legends Community,

I've been with this game for quite some time and I've seen my fair share of meta game shifts along with a rather vivid variety of strategies that work (and well when done in the right hands). Games were unique both in ranked and in normal queue, people played every champion, builds were unique and different, and games had a very unique feel to them. Things were good and the creativity from the community (despite some ideas being awful) was plentiful. You never knew what to expect when the next game started up for the most part. There was a defined meta back in season 1, but it was loosely followed and people either deviated off of it or made a completely new team comp altogether.

When season 2 hit the scene, all of that seemed to have gone out the door. Ever since the majority of the community (both newbies and good casuals) were exposed to the higher ELO and tourney side of LoL, all of that creativity seemed to have gone out the window and a new cookie cutter side of LoL hit the scene. Everyone was aware that there was a meta that worked in a tourney for the top team and everyone wanted to be like them. Naturally, they all copied the builds, strategies and team compositions and accepted their meta and strategies to be the hidden rule behind a team composition. This is when it was widely enforced that you should only have tanky dps up top, AP mid, ranged ad and support bot, and a jungler. If your team didn't obey this formula, you were considered a noob and were automatically set up for a report at the start of the match without question. And this is just how it has been ever since. Creativity stifled and every single member of the League of Legends community now obeys whatever the pro streamers say and do. Monkey see, monkey do to put it in general terms

The problem I have with this is people are too scared to try something new anymore and experiment around with new combinations that might work for specific situations and team comps. In solo ranked queue, it makes sense for people who queue'd solo to obey the standard meta composition. For normal queue, what's the matter with people experimenting around? Why must the meta be enforced as a rule and why do the majority of people in normal queue have such a big problem with people who are queued together if they try something new? Me and my best friends on LoL, Twilight Sparkle and Potatis, practice completely different and unusual team combinations in normal queue because,.... hell, it's fun and we ****ing rock. Combinations go as bizare as having two people mid, double jungle, two tanky dps bottom, two ap bottom ect. I'd like to say we win roughly 70% of the games we're in because we're well coordinated and heck, we're ****ing beast. But the problem we always face which sometimes results in us losing the game is the fact that the majority of the normal queue people automatically say "No support? Why duo mid? Why isn't ranged going bottom? Why is ap not going mid? Why are you playing that champion top?". This results in either a member of the team rage quitting, people surrendering at 20 minutes if they fail their lane or blame the loss on us, despite them going 0/10/0. What people need to understand is that normal queue is free range experimentation mode. That's what it was back in season 1 and that's what made season 1 so much fun for normal queue goers.

What I don't understand is why people refuse to accept this about normal queue and feel like what the pros do is exactly what you should do for every game. What you don't understand about the pro players of league is that every game is a unique experience. There is no such thing as a one glove fits all strategy in this game and it can be played in many different types of ways. The meta right now works generally. The problem is, when you throw a curve ball against a team set up in the current meta, they will most definitely loose because they're only trained to go up against that specific meta. Another thing is in normal queue, champion selection is blind pick. You have no idea what you're going to be up against and there is no such thing as counter picking. The meta game is a hit and miss with this queue because if you happen to go against a person your champion isn't strong against, then you're destined to fail. So, to offset the chances of that happening, why not completely **** over the other team and try something completely different? 90% chance they will have no idea how to even go about going against your team and if your team is made up of at least 1-2 of your friends, you're going to win with your newer team comp because, heck, the other team doesn't know jack about going against anything else other than the meta.

I could go on, but I'd only feel like I was dragging this on, so I just want to close this letter to you all with the following; Quit your *****ing when people try something new inside of normal queue. Don't report people for not following the meta's lane composition. Last I checked, the metagame team build is NOT an enforced rule of LoL that you can get banned for or even sent to tribunal for. The people on your normal queue team (80% of the time) are not trolling you by playing that twitch or mundo in the jungle. Prior to what we have now, playing mundo in the jungle would've gotten you an instant "OMFG NEWB MUNDO TROLLING IN JUNGLE REPORT REPORT" (I still get this as jungle twitch and if any of you know me, I play an incredibly strong and effective jungle twitch). Now look! Just about every game has a mundo in the jungle. Why? Because someone up there in the higher ELO bracket experimented and found a new way to play a champion. They didn't stick to what was comfortable, so why should you? Experiment around with team compositions and ways to play different champions in normal queue. Quit relying on pros to do all the work for you and experiment around for yourself. Don't stick to guides like they're the gospel and learn to deviate from them, especially if the situation calls for me. So quit being a bloody tool of the metagame and go and get your hands dirty.

Your friend fellow LoL player,

Toshabi
