If AP Yi would be popular and used by pros to fullest effect, he would be first ban.

Not really. He has a ****ty teamfight presence, unless he gets ult procs off which is very hard. Too unreliable to play at professional level.

He is more a poke champ and then a cleanup machine. His Alpha Strike with enough AP and 40% cdr can poke very often with very high damage.

And if the enemy can get put down with 2 alphas after initiation, go in.

There are other champions who fight better away from minions and initiators would be better off initiating those fights in a well warded jungle or the river. It's not like Yi is special in that.
