I was wondering wether playing mostly as support in solo queue would make you drop in elo. Basically the thought behind this is this: if you are doing well in the other roles you will be matched against stronger opponents. Your team will consist of some weaker players and some of your skill level. If you now play support a lot, you will have less influence on the outcome of the game and are at a disadvantage if the enemy team has a weaker player, picking support. Therefore you will eventually drop in elo. Am I correct in assuming this?

This should be true at every skill level. So one might draw the conclusion from that, that it puts you in a great advantage to always have the weakest player play support. At least elo-wise. It also means though, that if someone truly plays badly, they would rise in elo, if they only played support. Actually you would have to know how well the others on your team play. If they are probably better than you, you should pick support, if they aren't it will make you drop in elo in the long run.

Am I correct or am I missing something important? I thought I had was that maybe lane composition might play a role as well. If the best two players in a team play support/AD for example, this could benefit the team more than if they picked AD with weak support and say solo top.

Supports carry the carry. Do you want someone who sucks at league to be in charge of your carry getting fed? That's why a lot of people support their way out of ELO hell. Although that seems like the most nerve wracking way of doing it it's pretty common. Or at least I just hear of people doing it a lot.

Thank you Miss Maw, CasterMaster and Arcana3 for the sweet sigs. I'd definitely recommend you to anyone looking for a nice sig.

If your carry plays much worse then you though, wouldn't it be better the other way around? I often stood next to an Ashe as Soraka who couldn't lasthit and was at 80 CS at 20 min while managing to die from time to time and I said to myself. Maybe I should have insisted on playing AD. Even a terrible Soraka cant keep me from farming. (Unless she pushes the lane like crazy and feeds the enemy – still better then the other way around though)

It's not about what's better or worse. If you don't want to lose ELO play jungle. You asked if it was a bad idea. It isn't.

Maybe you would be at 2100 as Jungler though. I notice that i always have a losing streak when I play a couple of games as supports until my elo stabelizes. When I play carries I have win streakes for a while.

Actually it wouldn't even matter wether the elo is a little lower or higher. If not only I prefered playing with more skilled players. But maybe the difference is not really so big, so it does not really matter. The question is how much of an impact you can make as a support in comparison to other roles.

Another problem related to this is, that if you play all roles, supporting games will be very difficult, while carrying will be very easy.

Playing support in solo queue is like holding your ***** out over piranha infested waters.

Maybe nothing will happen, but chances are pretty good it won't end well for you. :P

Logic states it should be harder to carry a game without gold. Use your brain and decide for yourself if it's harder to win as a support. :P

Now, if support is by far your best role and you're bad at everything else, you might be better off supporting, but if you can play multiple roles, the ones with the gold usually carry harder :P

He has quite a point. I'm just saying in my experience my whole team does better with a good support rather than just me trying to carry everything on my back all the time.

It's the same reason I like to jungle in ranked. It has an impact on more than one person thus giving everyone more rather than just me. It's why I roam whenever my lane partner goes B and I'm mid. Help the team rather than yourself. So having someone you know is a good support is a huge help to the team and that's why I play support sometimes.

I don't like AD carry cuz I feel like it doesn't matter whether I do well or not cuz if my team sucks my team sucks and there's nothing I can do to carry 4 feeders. Support keeps people from feeding as hard if they're good. So in the battle between whether to play AD carry or support I would always choose support. But if I had the choice to jungle I'd take that over support.

I see it this way. First try to jungle, if you can't then go mid, if someone already called that then support, If by some miracle someone volunteered to support then go top. If you can't go top dodge que cuz I know I'm gonna lose if I have to be AD carry lol JK I'll play Ezreal or Urgot

I hear a lot of people say that they got all of their elo by playing mainly support in solo que.

I do it quite often when I play with my friend (elo difference gives us first pick & last pick.) My 2 cents of advice is if your playing support....play janna.

No other support can make plays in as many different ways as janna. Ntm she has one of the best passives in the game.

Also if your a good janna, your ad has no excuse for feeding/losing badly in lane.
