I'm playing a Smurf on NA at the moment. (Frogs VS Emus).
I often pretend to just be a newbie as well, but I say stuff like "Oh, I've played a little DotA".
Politeness and being nice are your best weapons against the ***hat players who rage. Unless you have a team full of ragers, people will normally take the side of the polite player.
(On a side note, I notice it's smurfs who mainly stay stuff like "bg" if they lose. That gets you an instant report from me. It's VERY disrespectful.)

A: Extremely tired.
B: Drunk
C: ARAM
D: Premade.
I have a smurf account right now but it's only so I can try things before I try them on my main account. I just get the win of the day bonus and call it good for the day, I just stack IP on my smurf so that when It dose hit 30 I can try any rune build for any free week champ I have been wanting to try, IP takes forever to build and before I buy a champ or anything on my main, I can try it on my smurf. Smurfing dominion is easy and just a few minutes a day to = a mass IP pool so I can even try the strange or unusual builds, before I invest on my main, it's also takes the edge off playing with lower level players, and don't flame or troll as smurf it makes game no fun when people do that.

There's an ignore function right?
But sometimes it's not even worth the time.
In ELO hell, the ignore button is far more OP than skill (http://leagueoftips.com/?p=1400)
or in this case, in lower level games, the ignore button still proves to be far more OP than skill.
Smurfs are cocky little players. As someone has said, welcome to the internet where people can talk as much trash as they want behind a computer screen.
