She is still awesome, and somehow you can win agaist most melees on top. Not everyone but champs like Singed and Panth are certainly doable. I really enjoy playing her but the Energy in lategame is just too weak.
I spam myself out of energy every teamfight and thus missing kills or my smokebomb :x

It's sad that akali is somewhat outclassed but diana lategame.
Similar mechanics, but mana to spam skills later. 2 damaging skills are aoe, and 1 aoe cc.
While akali only has single target burst, no survival skills late game cause oracles.
She's one of my favourite champs b4 I hit 30, and with diana it seems that akali aint one of the best picks in normals.

I believe Akali can beat Dianna in a 1v1. Dianna's shield is quite strong, but massive spell vamp/life steal as well as huge single target burst makes Akali hard to deal with.
Dianna's shield gives her better survivability in team fights due to the fact it midigates/absorbs damage opposed to Akali's shroud which while giving her stealth, only gives her some resists which means she can still die in AoE.

Akali's ult can be more reliable than Diana's when roaming for kills because you can use it three times without "ifs". I did a ranked where I went Diana and opponent went Akali, our lane phase was pretty similar (although her Q spam was annoying and she could heal from mine), but once we started to roam she felt a lot more effective simply because she's a lot more tireless as a chaser.

I still haven't found a real counter or safe pick versus diana in my champion pool =[
