It's cuz he's FotM man. That means that all the noobs think he's a sure win and they buy him and use him, and they make up about 60% of ez players. So it makes Ez look bad. Then you go against a good ez and want to kill yourself by the end of laning phase, and actually do start trying to kill yourself by the end of the game.

So, you played with me didn't you? I keep picking Ez in ranked (have about 10 games total with him zz) and I get free wins just dropping from the sky. I don't even know where they come from.
Ez is just pretty strong right now. Max W for free harass, E saves your life, and he's not even that weak lategame, especially with a support who can buff him (Nunu, Janna, etc)

Wouldn't it be awesome if Riot released bad *** skins for champions people actually play? GOSH when PFE came out I was like **** YES A NON "GAY" SKIN (aside from Frosted).
*clears throat* Ezreal's always been a strong ADC, it just took Riot's ability to find a champion worthy of an awesome skin (to jumpstart sales AND popularity in matches) a little longer than it should.

I still prefer frosted. I think It's pretty badass. In game he just looks like a demon or somethin, blowin **** up.
